I've noticed that my truck will have a slight loss of power now and then when driving, and it seems to happen at a certain RPM. It hasn't effected the drivability, but I thought it would be worthwhile to run this by folks familiar with the engine. Fuel filter? Injectors?

So many things it could be, many of them fuel related. The other issue though is the portion of the emissions device that continually burns-off excess fuel in the plenum, causes idle to go all over the place. If this is your problem, not much you can do about it.

Nope. Can codes show up without the "check engine" light illuminated?

Yes, there are some codes that don't cause the CEL to come on. It only takes a minute with a paper clip to check them, so give it a try just to see if the ECU will tell you anything.

22Rs have trouble codes? o_O

NS

this thread is about a 22RE

which checking codes is always a good place to start.

and no, there is no codes nor ECU on a 22R

the fuel vapor purge, yes?

which if the ECU is telling the VSV to open, and the O2 has failed, the ECU wont recognize what it is supposed to. like a richer condition.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Turned out to be a simple tune up issue. When I bought it, the PO said he was pretty sure that a tune up had been done recently by his shop, so I hadn't even bothered to look at the components. Rotor and cap were pretty worn, and the plug wires were from Carquest. Since there's no Carquest here, and the rig has been here for at least 5 years, they got tossed. Runs like a champ now....except for cracked manifold soon to be replaced.
