Just got my latest project running and it runs great but when it sets for awhile its seems like the fuel leaks off. Its like its out of fuel. The truck is an 85 SR5 with a 22re engine.I'm new to yotas so im not real familiar with them yet. Any ideas on what my touble may be ?

When you go to start it after its sat awhile its just like starting one when its out of fuel. I don't touch the gas pedal I just crank it in short intervals and after a few times it begins to hit and after a few hits it fires and run fine. Could it just be losing fuel pressure?

It only takes a second or so for the fuel pump to build the pressure back up, so I don't think that's your problem.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Have you checked the cold start injector?

How old are the plugs? Rotor? Dist cap? Plug wires?

Fuel filter is new.I'm running a MSD inline fuel pump.I first started the truck about 4 months ago and I
don't remember having this problem then.It has to set for about 3 hours before it's really hard to start
but after about an hour you can notice its harder to start. It very well could be the cold start injector maybe the engines just cooling off.I haven't checked it and to be honest I don't know how to check it but I'm confident I can if someone can tell me how?I also haven't changed the plugs yet but thts on the to do list.

The CS injector is in the top of the intake manifold. There is a thin hard fuel line and a small electrical connector attached to it. You will need to get 2 new copper washers, be sure to get these before disconnecting the banjo fitting for the fuel line, or it may leak and you'll be stuck unable to run the engine until you get this fixed. There is also a paper gasket under the injector where it attaches to the manifold, sometimes this separates fine though.

You may be surprised to find the end of the injector totally encased in black goop when you pull it out. Hose it off well with carb cleaner, there is a test in the FSM for it. You may wanna try hooking it back up before re-installing, have a friend hold it inside a glass jar while you crank the engine to see if it squirts fuel.

No need to buy new copper washers if you disconnect the CS injector. Just re-anneal them(heat them up with a propane tourch red hot to soften them again). Done this many times with copper washers.

It could also be a prob with you circuit opening relay in your fuel pump wiring circuit. Its a saftey device that only allows the fuel pump to run with the key in start position untill the motor is running.

Try jumping the fuel pump check terminal before you go to start the vehicle. If after doing this, it starts right away, there's your prob.
