Is there any place that sells those beefed up motor mounts for a 1985 4runner with a 22re motor for a reasonable price? I looked at some of the ones online but I'm not paying 250.00 just for the mounts ...... not to mension 75.00 more for the chassis side !!!! Or even better anyone have any dimensions and a parts list, I can try and build them myself.

Another option is to weld a short length of chain between the motor mount bracket and the frame. You still get rubber insulation, but when the engine torques over, the chain keeps it from ripping the mount. You really only need to do do the left side. This is a good thing to do with crawler gears, all that torque is hard on the mounts.

Like Sam said, those mounts are basically for trail use only. If you DD your rig, I would pony up the money for new mounts with rubber isolators. Also, Zag brings up a good old school technique with the chaining down the mounts. When everyone started putting doublers on, the engine mounts would get destroyed with the torque. I personally like a factory motor mount with a chain welded in...

Yes it should be mentioned that my rig is trail only. I would NOT put those on a DD.

I think user "Corax" found a good solution for some beefy mounts. They were made for a bigger engine, but happen to have the same bolt pattern. I think you can find the info in his build thread here on Mud or on YT.
They are what I plan to use anyway. I believe they are energy suspension poly mounts w/ interlocking metal pieces just in case the plastic breaks.

*** I just remembered that he has a supra inline six in his 4runner, so the mounts might not work w/ the 22re. oh well***

Well I did read a post about using the GM tranny mount. They look good but not sure how long they will last. I'm not to worried about the extra driveline vibs with stiffer mounts. I've had jeeps and race cars with solid mounts and never seem to bother me any. I just want durability.

First post and joined specifically for this thread. I called TG earlier to ask them if the 3.4L mounts were supposed to be shorter then stock. I was worried they sent me the wrong ones like for the 22R or something. They said they actually are all the same but said they will bolt right up and they've never heard of them being shorter. They said if anything they'd heard they were a tiny bit taller.

I don't know what the 22R mounts look like but out of curiosity, did you guys notice if the TG ones were the same height?

Check this out... It's a fixture I made a while back when I built my own mounts. I've got the OE mount in place and then stick the TG ones in. Notice the height gap? Also, notice the two lower bolt holes not lining up? Then see how the OE one literally just falls into place? Your thoughts?

They swear they'll go right in and also swore they weren't shorter. Hard to argue against that video though I'd think right?

Those are the same ones I have. I didn't notice any install trouble. They bolted right up. I have a 22RE in my truck though.
