So my wife needs a new vehicle and one of the possibilities on her list is a 2027 Land Cruiser. I absolutely hate the Toyota buying process where you cannot just order the vehicle exactly the way you want it and wait 3/4 months and there it is. But we have a fifth generation 4Runner with 400 K miles on it as well as two previous Tacoma‘s so I was aware of the process before even starting it. We are not really looking to make the purchase to possibly December or January but just looking over what is available currently it seems that every local dealer that has anything in stock is one super loaded pushing the truck into the high 70s with so many things that we are not looking for.Just doing a online build, I was looking for a wind chill pearl with java softex. I also didn’t want the SDM option, but it basically looks like I have no choice on that one? Also, the premium interior option has a lot of items that we would not use anyway so I want to delete that as well. I also didn’t want any of the Toyota add-on protection packages, which seem to be on every local vehicle for sale. Those alone can add another 2K. Couple of questions. For those that went with a softex instead of the leather any regrets? I have seen a few write ups from people saying they actually liked it better than the leather because of durability, etc.. Also, any regrets from anyone that did not go with a premium interior package? I do want to replace the tires with the 18” Nitto Terra Grapplers which I see is a port option in the southeast. As far as trying to locate a simple vehicle like my build, I just today used AI and they were able to locate 4 to 5 very similar builds coming in the next month or two. They are not coming in locally but within states close by. Has anyone gone that route as far as trying to locate vehicles this way and getting in touch with those dealerships? Lastly, what should I be looking at as far as a good percentage off MSRP? Thanks so much for any information you guys can provide.

You mentioned the southeast so I bet you’re dealing with dealers in the Gulf States Toyota network. They are the worst to deal with IMO so if you’re good with traveling outside of their territory I’d start there.

That being said you can get what you want with a local dealer, it just may require a bit more work on your end. Best thing to do is call around for a point of contact and then stick to email only so you have things in writing. Let them know what you want and what your timeline is to buy and pit them against each other. (For example, Dealer A has said they will MSRP, no add ons. Share that with Dealer B and see if they will beat it.) If you catch an incoming unit that is the color/trim you like they absolutely 100% can remove the port add ons.

5% off sticker is doable, haven’t heard of anything much more aggressive than that on a 250 unless you’re getting a employee discount.

Dealers vary drastically in every market. I went to my local dealer and they were like "oh no, we dont sell them, we collect them unless you pay extra $5000 for blinker fluid and 78% nitrogen..." 15 miles away, Town and Country Toyota knocked off about $1200 from msrp and I bought mine in August 2024. The whole experience with dealerships and the lying and the back and forth can be stressful to many, I had time, so dont mind doing it.

But, check out DELIVRD on YouTube, a new company that can do searches nationwide and find what you want, negotiate it, etc.

I can concur; the Gulf States group is hands down the worst.

We have Softex in our 2023 Highlander, I've never really wished it had normal leather. It's holding up as good as leather and gets a lot of daily-driving and kid use.

FYI - you might want to try some dealers further north in the Midwest. Toyotas are less common in general further north so the demand is (somewhat) less, more of the dealers are still family-owned instead of being multi-state conglomerate owned (which can make a huge difference in customer service), and it gets you out of Gulf States Toyota.

If you're talking about Scott Clark, I hate them with a passion.

@austino I had to contend with this about a year ago. I did a write up with all of my personal anecdoes in the thread:

It may be worth a read for worthwhile dealers.

EDIT: as @izzyandsue mentioned, the Delivrd guy may be worthwhile so you don't have to deal with the typical dealer shenanigans. Honestly, I may go this route for my next new car purchase (or at least consider it after an initial salvo of contact) as I have a love/hate experience with the "chase" of the new car buying process.
