Looking for some peace of mind / opinions on a noise I’ve been hearing on my 2021 LX570 (just under 27k miles). It only seems to happen in the morning (cold start / first drive of the day). Once the truck is fully warmed up I don’t notice it.
I’m wondering if this is just normal or if it points to something like a chain tensioner starting to act up.
A bit of background: I’ve taken over all the maintenance myself this year after letting the dealer do the basic oil changes since new. In the last 3 months I’ve done every fluid on the truck. For oil, currently has 0w-20 Kirkland in it. I’ve checked the oil level a ridiculous number of times and it’s right where it should be. Part of me wonders if I’ve just become hyper-aware of every little sound now that I’m more hands-on with the truck.
I seem to notice it on low idle conditions, especially when the AC comp is switching on or off. At ~800 RPM with the comp off I'll sometimes get a real deep almost knocking sound, almost as if it's a diesel, and at ~1100 RPM when the compressor kicks on I hear a noticeable ticking initially. I was only able to capture the 1100RPM tick today in the video. I swear everyday is a little different experience. The sound is more prevalent on the passenger side FWIW and I never hear it in the cabin or at higher RPMs.
Normal or worth digging into? I'm almost certain I'm going to switch to 5w-30 soon given the noisy drive train on the 5.7 but wanted to see if any other opinions should be considered. I do wonder if my short trips are causing an issue, I'm only 2 miles from work and have really only been averaging a little over 5k miles per year.
