I've got 11K miles on my 2018 LX570 and the cruise control drives me NUTS. While there are a number of things that I find objectionable about bthe cruise control, the most annoying is the way the vehicle deals with rolling hills. The car likes to shift gears to maintain speed which causes rpms to run way up (say from 1500 to 3000). The shifts are abrupt enough to jerk the car. My old LX470 (dear Lord WHY did I sell it???) was smooth as butter when maintaining a speed. I thought I'd ask if others find their LX570's cruise controls operating like this?

I assume that this logic is built into the car's software and is not fixable but I thought I'd ask.

This is objectionable enough for me that I've considered selling the LX. Any idea if the LC's of this vintage operate like this?

Is the issue related to the radar cruise?

I don’t use the cruise control much but I have experienced the quick revving to get up to speeds. It’s annoying but nowhere near enough to make me consider selling.
I think it may be related to the Radar Cruise. In another thread I discovered that holding the On/Off button for the cruise (end of the stalk) for a couple seconds bypasses the Radar Cruise and locks in the traditional Cruise control. This may eliminate the agressive shifting that I am objecting to...I need to test it some more. I use cruise control a lot and in hilly areas the shifting to maintain speed seems excessive...my old LX470 sure didn't need to do that.

I don’t think this is related to the Radar Cruise Control. I have noticed this too on my 2009 and I really dislike it. On my recent 6000 mile cross country trip I would bump up the CC 1 or 2 mph and it would sometimes drop a gear just to get up to speed. It would be much better if it just took a second or two longer to accelerate.

In my experience the truck will try and reach speed as quickly as possible. I don't notice any worse or better gas mileage vs not using cruise.

This is the same story from my old FJ Cruisers, 4Runners, Tacoma, 2013 200 and now my 2019 LX. Maybe it’s a Toyota thing?

I’ve read in another thread that many folks find the tranny mapping a bit irritating on the Late model LXs. Some mention a TSB for reprogramming the map. Maybe it’s a combo of the radar cruise with the trans map.

I juts radar cruise on a 1600 mile trip and while there are a few quirks (notably breaking when a car is exiting to the right/front; it’s leaving so no factor) I was pleased that the cruise Mangaged to get me 21.5 mpg average for two tanks!
