Considering swapping ring and pinions in my 2017, the 285/75R18 really affect drivability especially when towing, 4.30 ratio seems to be the number to put it back to stock, the 4.30 ring and pinions are hard to come by, but i have sourced a set front and rear with installation kits from various vendors, looks like the 4.30 ratio was OEM in the 100 series, will the 3rd members be a direct swap into the 200? something tells me it can't be that simple. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Yes, you can swap the rear 3rd member from a 100 series. The front diff also interchanges with certain specs of Tundra, but you may have to swap the passenger side bearing support/intermediate shaft from your 200 series diff. There's a thread somewhere around here with that info.
Since you have a 2016+, you might also consider the 3.90 gears from an earlier 200 series as well.
So I had a little time this morning to put together a chart combining transmission gearing of 6-speed vs 8-speed, diff ratios, and tire sizing into an overall gearing reference. Hoping this will be useful for those trying to understand how their changes are going to effect overall gearing of the setup.
EDIT: Adding additional reference info
Few notes:
1) Yellow and Red denote marginal to poor ratios for the setup
2) Even with 37s, the 8-speed first gear gearing is better than the stock 6-speed gearing with 31s!
3) The 8-speed has...
Still in the early stages and I could use some recommendations on differential install kits/parts.
I've got the keystone pieces in the garage as I attempt to collect the ancillary parts before I rip into the car. Planning a 4.3 re-gear with rear only Harrop e-locker. Locker is less of a priority for me as I want to re-gear for heavy towing with 35s. But while I'm in there sort of thing...might as well get a locker in.
My preference is always OEM parts where possible, versus aftermarket. Sourced the following for their 4.3 ring and pinion gears:
1) '02 LX470 rear differential
2) '12...
Hopefully this helps anyone else searching for gearing answers.
