Has anyone been keeping up with the release of information on the 2016 Tacoma? When I saw the photos released last week my impression was that a 4Runner and Tundra had a kid. But the cab sheet metal looked pretty much the same as the previous generation.

I just watched the press reveal for the NAIAS in Detroit and they gave some information on the new motor. It's a 3.5L V6 Atkinson-cycle with direct and port fuel injection. No power or MPG numbers yet. I wonder if their idea is to more precisely meter the fuel-charge to deal with the Atkinson cycle focus on efficiency over power. Most of the hybrids in the US use an Atkinson-cycle.

From what I read, Tacoma V6 will go from the 4.0L 1GR-FE to the 3.5L 2GR-XFE. The 2GR-XFE is basically a V6 Camry engine with port/direct injection and Atkinson cycle. I would expect numbers about ~250HP and 250ft-lb of torque. The engine will have to be spun to a much higher rpm (+5000 max torque, +6000 max power) compared to the old 4.0 to get these numbers out of it though. This would be similar to the switch from the 2F to the 3FE. I would guess MPGs for a 4x4 with this drive train would be in the low to mid 20s.

Found this info on the web - http://italkaboutcars.com/2016-toyota-tacoma-news, says pretty much what Devil Frog does, so, i guess that's pretty much what we can expect from the new 2016 Tacoma.
