You might want to check out low mile 2013 to 2015 LXs, they have much of the same style as the Land Cruiser 200, easy touchscreen interface, and at a lower price. Aside from the suspension, headlights/taillights, and plastic bumper covers/front fenders, they're very similar, even have near identical side and rear profiles to the 2019 LC. Just another option as they are more widely available on the secondhand market.
When I was looking for our next suv a few months ago we toyed around with the idea of a cpo g wagon. I saw several that had an essentially clean carfax that were then bought back as lemons. About five years ago I had an f250 that went to the shop six times in nine months. Ford wouldn’t take it back as a lemon so I traded it. Not a single visit to the dealer from those nine months showed up when I swapped it out for a Sequoia. Carfax is helpful only if it has bad information (like three owners in three years) that tells you to stay away or regular maintenance visits. A clean carfax means nothing to me.
Thanks for the feedback, it's great insight. Each LC I've really dug into has had warning signs and narrowing my search to a gently used blue or red on brown is exacerbating this problem. That said, this is a great reminder to let the situation develope and not convince myself multiple owners in a short lifespan is nothing to think or worry about.

The LC is just about the most bulletproof vehicle you can buy. And there are very few sold in the US. If every one you are looking at has what are perceived to be serious issues, you might want to reconsider your criteria. The average buyer on these isn’t some kid beating it like a stolen rental. I don’t know your criteria, but it’s a yellow flag when every one you see is unacceptable.

Regarding carfax, it’s a joke. It’s a money making scheme. Like a broken clock that’s right twice a day, they get some things right. Not counting the 10 years a a multi franchise dealer, I’ve bought a couple cars a bikes to flip per year, plus changing my own cars every year or two. So I’ve test driven hundreds if not 1K+potential trade ins, run car faxes, inspected for paint work, looked at undercarriage rust etc, plus researched, bought and sold a ton on my own.
I’ve seen car fax show multiple owners when there weren’t. I dont remember their metric but I think moving and having it titled in a new state counts as a new owner. I’ve seen a 2 owner show as 4 or 5 owner. Especially when initially leased. On leases, you don’t own it, the bank does. They are named as owners on the title, unlike when you buy and finance. Id dig deeper to see if it really had 3 owners. It’s highly unlikely.
Regarding undercarriage rust, most of the time concerns are greatly over exaggerated. Suspension and brake systems are your main concerns. Components being seized up. Maybe exhaust. And body panel rust from poor repairs or inadequate paint repair. But much of the warning to “avoid” tends to be misplaced.

Just looked at the carfax. I’d say owner 1-2 could be simply a charge of states and new title. Notice how it doesn’t say “offered for sale” as it does other places. Or it could be that someone bought it, put 20k miles on it, and then went to something else. Many people buying new at this price point can afford to do that. Either way, neither of those concern me.

11/18 there is some sort of title change. I’d confirm with carfax the possibilities. An add or removal of a spouse/ex? Simply a refinance and thus new lien holder?

Note that the title changes are 11/17 and 11/18. Could being 1 year exactly be a coincidence? Sure. Could there be other explanations other than it getting new owners every 12 months? Sure.

I’d dig deeper.

That's fair, I guess the difference is I haven't had the experience in the industry as you suggest to have. What I do know is I want to avoid any potential pitfalls considering the cost of the car.

Thanks for the advice. Just trying to get the best LC I can while doing it remotely from Afghanistan.

Understood. And I appreciate your service!
I just checked vehiclehistory.com, check it out as it has some info definitely not on carfax. It shows selling dealers, so that sheds light. Looks like there is some nascar family dealership sharing going on at one point.

Also run an autocheck. Buy the 3 package. I didn’t check that because it’s not free, but vehiclehistory is.

See what you can piece together. And as you’ve decided, don’t rush it. If you end up having to get online and price shop a rental car for a bit, and eat 1K or something on a rental, that might be better than making a mistake.

Another search method that might produce for you: search on Craigslist. Pick a city and then enter in all your search parameters. See the results. Ok, now up in the browser bar, on the page with the results, change city names and hit enter. That’s a quick way to re-search in another city without having to re-enter all the parameters.

It's my pleasure...only 3 more months to go!!!

USAA is covering the rental through AUG, but yes we have considered that as well. Much rather wait a month and see what surfaces. Luckily we came out in the green as USAA valued the LC over our pay off amount. Thanks again and if you happen to come across a 2016+ please don't hesitate to let me know!

I just tested my method on Craiglist. I started in Portland OR and then changed the name to
Houston. I also indicated “owner” so it wouldn’t show dealers as they are likely to be on auto trader or wherever you’re looking.
Not your color but here is a black 16 in Houston. Not the comment about “no major wrecks” does that mean it has a minor?

Here’s one in Seattle
This is #2 on our color combo list. Thank you.

Another black in Tx. Ive just been typing in cities as a think of them. Maybe pull up a map and work your way across the country. You should be able to just type in larger cities as they will also pull up nearby cities.

Also there was a 19 in San Diego but it’s prob more than you want to spend but did have extended warranty. You might be able to get price lowered by the extended warranty price since they can get most of it refunded.

The other one is black I believe, which is at the bottom of the list. The service history had like 4 reports of rattles/noises before being sold. Looks like the windshield was also replaced which I thought was weird.
Drive it and see if it rattles. My middle row on my ‘13 rattles/shakes but not to the level it bothers me. Also per the windshield, in on my 4th windshield and I would be surprised to make it through this winter without getting my 5th... windshields are replaced all the time. If it were me the CPO would give me more piece of mind.

I was talking with the dealer in Brownsville about the brandywine 200 you mentioned...why hasn’t it sold!?! It’s literally exactly what I want, they’ve been helpful in answering all questions, but why has it sat for so long?! I don’t understand, I’m tempted but can’t afford to make a huge mistake.

I bought my LX remotely. I paid for a 3rd party inspection service to go pull the dipstick and drive it around. I think they would have found about 50% of the potential issues. THey did take around 100 pictures, which were as informative as the written report.

If I recall it was $150, and of course arranged completely remote.

If you ask specific questions, they will perform that during the inspection. I had one trick question - to verify the KDSS wasn't rusted. Of course this was on an LX, so no KDSS. They answered that question correctly, so it gave me some faith in the report.

OVerall, about as useful as a home inspection - mostly look at what is obvious, occasionally there is a nugget.

Fly down on Friday, drive back over the weekend?

I'm thinking about next week...flights are cheaper.

They told me it went up for sale, then the recall thing prevented them from selling it, so it's been sitting on the showroom floor. Now that it's fixed and ready to go, it just sits...

They also told me that the PO traded it in on the same 200 but a 2019...not sure if that's good or bad...

When I pressed them on why it's sitting...she said they don't have many 200 buyers in the area...they sell more RAV4's and Tacomas. It is kinda in the middle of nowhere...not exactly easy to get to.

Anyone else, should I do it???

Rav4 and Tacoma sell more than the LC, so it's likely true that's why this LC is sitting.

Can you share link?

I flew to purchase my 2013 lx to florida from georgia. My 2013 lx was at a bmw dealership with 85k miles. I pre-negotiated price and make sure you obtain the final price in writing. I placed a refundable deposit. I had it inspected at a toyota dealership since there was not a lexus dealership within 200 miles. I paid $150 via telephone with credit card to the Toyota Dealership. I requested a master tech inspect it. When I arrived at the dealership I spent a couple of hours looking over the lx. I knew the time next flight home just in case. I made the decision to purchase it.

I wouldn't be afraid of it sitting on a lot for a long time. Grinchy used lemon squad so, I would probably use them. The toyota dealership i used didn't provide a lot of photos or a detailed report. Just that everything looked great. They didn't catch the radiator had dreaded crack forming. But that wasn't too bad of a replacement.

I purchased wife's mdx from Miami acura dealership due to the mileage, condition, and price. We flew down and made a weekend out of it.

I also walked away from a mdx in Tampa. The condition was not what I expected when I arrived. So, I knew the next flight back. Lyft/uber is easy to use. Plane ticket home is easier than getting stuck with a vehicle you don't like. I do put a refundable deposit down. Make sure you receive everything in writing.

The good thing you have going here is that this LC still has powertrain warranty. The warranty alone should be piece of mind. I bought my LX at 85k miles and it was CPO with a 2 year warranty, so the CPO put my mind at ease.

Since you are overseas, I would try and get pics of the undercarriage and engine. If it has minimal to no rust and pics look fine, try and get it inspected if possible.

Otherwise I wouldn't be too worried about this being a 3 owner truck. IMHO.
