did the 2014s come with remote start standard? I can’t get mine to work...

If not, what should I expect a dealership to charge to add it?

If I went aftermarket, will an aftermarket system work better as in I won’t have to kill the engine as I enter the car?

Thanks for any assistance!

It's a dealer-installed option, so not all have the factory remote start. My '11 had it, my '15 does not. You can buy the module and install it yourself, I don't think it's very difficult, it's about $250-300 for the part.

My '15 came with an aftermarket remote start, it is a CompuStar unit. Downside is that I have to carry another fob if I want to use it, and no, it will not keep running when I open the door. Good side is it has HUGE range, like close to a mile! (the factory remote start range is pathetically short) And the fob has a little display on it that confirms when the truck is locked, when the engine is running, I can even query the current engine temp and voltage from the remote, it's pretty cool. So it has a LOT more features that the factory one does not. I am betting it was pretty complicated to install, the PO told me he had a local shop do it for him.

Look on the underside of your hood. Do you have this orange sticker?

If so, then you have factory (port) installed Remote Start.

Thanks for the help guys.

I’ll call the dealership tomorrow to ask what parts are needed and how much, vs a local shop that does aftermarket.

Here are the accessories available for the '14 LC. The complete remote starter kit looks like it lists for $399. If you go aftermarket, make sure you get a really good, reputable place to install it. Bad remote starter installations have been a source of problems in these vehicles.

That’s about what I paid from my local dealer. I did the hardware install myself then had the dealer program it for about $100. A day or two after I picked it up, I realized you could get Toyota Techstream and cable fairly cheap and program it yourself. Install wasn’t bad, the only PITA was repinning a connector.
