Hey I just picked up a 2013 200 a couple of weeks ago with 75000 miles on her. I don’t think it has ever seen a garage because the paint on the hood and top is started to fade. I tried the clay bar this weekend but it didn’t do a thing. Anyone have any idea other than getting them both repainted? Other than that it is in pristine shape. Thanks for your help.

If it’s just the hood and the roof I’d get a respray quote. Or get it wrapped in vinyl or PPF.

Thanks ! Yeah I got a quote for 800 that I thought was fair. It had been in Charleston since new and that place can get hot along with the salty air.

Also trying to get the ppf off the edge of the doors and under the door handles on the drivers side. It’s cracked and looks like crap. Tried a heat gun this afternoon and it worked pretty well.

Maybe try to find some liquid oxidation wax. Not sure what it’s called but I had a 1980 Celica in high school with chalky paint and I used some stuff that resembled liquid wax which actually removed the chalkiness and made the paint surprisingly glassy. It’s been 30 years so NFC what it was called but I’m sure it must still exist.

Whatever you do, dont paint it. That Black 202 on the 2013 is a single stage paint, no clear coat. It will polish out and then buff and shine like new. Find a professional and let them do their thing to bring it back. You can also try it yourself, with a fine Meguiars polish, by hand, but jet black is easy to eff up, so if you dont know what youre doing, take it to a pro.

Was that the only color without a clear coat? Is that something toyota does often?

Toyota Super White was single stage, offered on the LC 200 until 2011, then they went to the Blizzard Pearl white metallic with clear coat for 2013+ The single stage Black 202 was offered through 2015, then they went to the Midnight Black Metallic for 2016+. Those were the only single stage paints on the 200, 100 and 80 series, in the US. The 62 series got the red, white and the royal blue single stage. The 60 series got red, white and blue single stage for sure, and maybe that root beer brown? And as far as I know all the colors on the 40 and 55 series were single stage, non metallic, no clear coat.
