Black bears are nothing to scoff at. They have been responsible for some maulings here in KY down at the red river gorge.
"Here bear"
From a few weeks ago in the San Juan's. Dogs woke me because this guys was just outside the truck.

nice to peeking out from your truck versus a plastic tent window

I have a couple of days before we meet up in Ouray that I was thinking of spending wheeling and camping around Crested Butte. The Wells/Peterson trail book rates most of the trails in that area as "difficult". I have found that their difficult rating ranges between "that wasn't bad at all" to "no f'ing way".
I'm curious if there's any trails around there that I should avoid.

Thanks

I wanted to hit Pearl Pass (Aspen-Crested Butte) this summer but can't fit it in. I heard Schofield Pass is nasty

We need to come up with a cool name for our event. 200s in the hills or 200Summit are not very original lol ..

Since it is a 200s only event- have to work that in a name. 200s Summit may not be that creative - but that or something similar. Simple and folks will know what it is- especially if they have moved from an FJ or a 100 series.

The FJ Summit was first only for FJs and then I think it opened up more for any Toyota. it's like 100s in Hills- was thinking of opening up to others and then got over a 100 folks with 100s this year.

Next year will be a little different... Got some grand plans.

200 Series Epic Ouray ... hmm .. something along those lines

Let's just get through this years event first.. :) We've increased our participation from 8 to 25 this year. Which is exciting but also more to manage.

OK... How about:

Question for Ouray Vets:

Do you NEED additional fuel? I've been assuming you do, but without a proper roof rack or rear bumper, I'm thinking about where to put it, as inside the vehicle is never a great idea...

Wishing I had my rear bumper done... :(

I may just strap some plastic cans up top, but curious how much you burn through on the trails we'll see.

You'll make it back into town with fuel to spare each day. If not I'll have some extra. Not to worry

I agree with @Willy beamin - no extra fuel needed.

As a side note: I spent last weekend fishing between Creede & Lake City. It made me even more anxious to go to Ouray. We even had a nice frost Saturday morning.

Whatever we decide to call this gathering of the 200's is going to be good fun.

Who else is running with HAM radio? I looked up repeaters - not sure if we will hit them from Ouray but we could do simplex? I'm KG5 ODP

I have CB only at this point. Just a portable unit with roof antenna, but my understanding is that you really don't need a ton of range for this trip.

-Just a way to say goodbye to everyone as you fall off cliffs, etc. ;)
