Getting the rubber off is nearly impossible. That rubber is heat pressed on that metal sleeve. So the key is to remove the metal oval sleeve rather than the rubber (bushing). Hope this helps.
I'm a bit confused on this direction. Is it best to work the oval metal sleeve all together straight up and not 2 different piece, one worked out downward and the other up? Thanks for the guidance

I used a cold chisel and a sledgehammer. But if you have an air hammer, that’s even better to remove the metal sleeve.
