I'll be needing tires in the next few months, and I'm at a crossroad. I'm currently running a set of 15" 4 spoke alloys on my 1988 4r. Ive got a set of 4 16" factory alloys off a 2002 Sport 4r, lugs, and caps in the storage unit. Tire prices on both are within $5.00 per tire, so no giant savings there. The 16's are actually slightly cheaper than the 15's.
My spare is currently a 15" steelie slung under the truck. I dont like it.
Either way I go, I'm going to need to buy one more wheel to match a set of 5, and a new set of 5 31x10.50 (or appropriate metric on the 16's). If i could get a good set of 4 of the 15's 4 spoke alloys for a great price, I'd stick with those, have a spare, and a set and a spare for a future trailer build.
So, without having mounted up the 16's, would I need spacers running 31's? Ive got slightly cranked torsions up front, and heavy duty springs out back, so I'm about 2 inches above stock. Its a daily driver, occasional mild forest service road truck, not a hardcore wheeler by any stretch. I've heard good and bad things about wheel spacers, spacer lugs loosening, studs breaking, threadlock or no threadlock, etc.
Input good or bad would be appreciated.
