200 reliabity compared to 100?

One thing that bears mentioning after reading this pissing contest or who's is bigger; Nobody mentioned the frames. They are increasingly stiffer, (metallurgy, engineering, etc.) I believe this would play a part in increasing reliability. I think the 200 is around 70% stiffer than my 80. That is a plus for me. I don't own one yet, but a 200 will be replacing my 100 next year. I have zero complaints with my 100 and it seems to be a logical step forward. As far as my 60 and 80, they're not going anywhere:) Oh, I'm rambling and it's past my bedtime.

I really don’t see a “pissing contest” here.

Seems a pretty reasonable discussion.

Meh... A couple testy posts in a three page thread isn’t bad. :)

Hey! I know... Let’s you and I have a pissing contest over whether it’s a pissing contest!
:) haha

Piss off... both of you! :)

I had a 100 series, owned from 135k to 190k. Built up and driven hard. It was very reliable, but not perfect. Fan clutch, some electrical gremlins, CV's with the diff drop, etc...

I've had my 200 from 60k to 140k. The 200 is in MUCH better shape than the 100 was when I bought it at similar miles and age. Leather is holding up perfectly. I've had no real issues. I get the CDL light occasionally. Twice now I've had to disconnect the neg cable to reset the system to get out of 4lo. That's it, and this one is built and driven hard when I get the chance.

On both of them, I did some preventive stuff like water pumps, starter, and on the 200 the radiator at 120k.

Based on my experience, 200 is somewhat more reliable but both are fantastic. We'll see how the next 120k treat me.

My '13 is at 275,000 miles, all driven by me. No mods (that's for the next one). I don't wheel it, but I drive the hell out of it. Tow trailers, go on long trips (vehicle loaded with 4 people/gear/crap), hunting, light trails, etc. Daily driver, to include all the rest.

Interior, including leather, is holding up great.
Original starter, water pump, and radiator. Have seen no issues, but I will be replacing within a few weeks. Figure I may be playing with fire.
Still original suspension, but it is shot at this point. Trip to Slee coming up in a couple months for basic OME.
Engine has been fantastic. No issues except for a coolant leak about 6 months ago.
Brakes on a regular basis. Replaced the rotors once around 225k or so.

Reliability has been exceptional for me. As stated above, I’m doing the starter, water pump, radiator, and suspension very soon. And then I’m going to drive it at least another 100,000 miles.

Great to hear! As I debate giving my wife my 100 (and getting a GX for myself), this post leads me to potentially getting her a 200 and keeping the 100.

Pretty easy decision for me. Akin to Porsche no longer offering air cooled 911s post MY1998, Toyota stopped selling solid front/rear axle US-bound Land Cruisers in '97.

So in the 100 and 200 market, buy the newest, lowest mileage Land Cruiser you can afford. There's no question for me that I'd pick up a'19 brand spanking new over ANY 100 series just for that engine power and looks alone. I love the latest refreshed 200 series! It's dope.

My 100 has the awful cracked exhaust manifold noise.... on both manifolds! annoying noise and I'm too lazy to get my arms in there to replace them; worse in the winter by the way. I think June, yes June would be a good month to do it. I am looking forward to getting a 200 though the wife and I would use it for cross country trips, we're both 62 so it would be fantastic, better with 2 Harrops in it.

Thank you guys! That's the black and white answer i needed to know! I can get a 2011 LX570 with 98K miles for around 27,000. That's what people are asking for a 2007 100 series clean.

Hello, I'm new to the site. I was looking for some info on high mileage 200 series LC's, I was looking at purchasing a 2008 with 330K on it. The service records are great ( every 5k at the dealer) 1 owner. When searching through the threads I was only finding people with 200 series having around 200-250k and a ton of the 100 series with well over that (including the tundra video). Any advice would be great (is it worth buying?), or if anyone has had maintance issues on 300+ miles. This would be my first LC, they are asking $19k for it.

Thanks,

There is a price paid tracker over in classifieds. I have a high mile lx570 and it’s fine there is wear and tear and you’ll spend $ on the base lining. In general reliability won’t be an issue.

That seems high for the mileage. I have seen some decent 170k mile range 200's for that price. Offer them $13k-$14k and see if they bite.

That's a steep price! I paid 5k more for half the mileage and rust free.

Thanks for the input, I will defiantly check out that classified thread. I thought the price was high as well, I looked up book KBB and NADA and that was high retail. It's been posted for 4 months, I'll see if they bite on the lower offer. It's a nevada rig so it shouldn't have any rust but I'll peek to be sure. It has custom rims with 50 or 55 series tires, which tells me it probably hasn't seen much dirt either LOL.

Thanks!

Having driven the LC100 almost everyday, I have to say that the 200 is significantly better vehicle. Lot more stable on road, adequate power (100 hardly manages to move the vehicle), better noise isolation, better towing, the list goes on.

I feel like the 200 might be the last great LC to be built that is solid due to simpler V8. The 300 series with all the turbo and hybrid and the unibody construction won’t be the same as 200 series.

Quick comparison:
What repeatedly became a problem on my 100 (CVs) has literally never been an issue on my 200. I had to replace my CVs on my 100 several times. But the 200’s angles are much improved to where I’m still on originals after 12 years...despite harder wheeling, larger tires and more abuse of my 200.

200 CV’s are crazy robust.
Only broken one I know of were actually non-toyota units on a friend’s rig.

Turbo/hybrid has been beat to death, but this is the first I’ve heard of unibody. Tundra/Tacoma are staying body on frame and I hesitate to believe toyota would allow them to be more durable than the new landcruiser, given its role in their worldwide market.

You sure about that?

From what I have read it will be based on TGNA platform.
