I checked the FAQ and didn't see what I was looking for, though I might have missed it. I've been looking at late model Land Cruisers and noticed that the power lift gate and soft open tailgate was added in 2018. Are there any other subtle changes/differences in MY from 2016 on?

Cheers,

Had the 16 and now 20. I see foldable mirrors, License plate lights are LED, the rear gate that you have mentioned, as well small things you may not notice like improvements to battery + cap, rear gate garnish around lights is different, KDSS valves and I am sure many more improvements I have not noticed yet.

I don't have pics of my old 2017 engine bay. When did they change out the problematic radiator? I know the 2020 has the new version, but not sure which model year first incorporated the updated part. Got any pics of the 2016 engine bay?

Sorry didn't notice that and don't have pictures.

Updated radiator wouldn’t be enough to sway me, personally. They are inexpensive and easy to swap, and they fail slowly over thousands of miles all while being super easy to inspect.

That said, you’d probably need to dig through the radiator PSA thread to find out if 18s had it. I’m sure 2019 did.

What change was made to KDSS valves? What year was this change?

Can confirm 18+ has KDSS bolt heads instead of Allen heads. I still sprayed it with LPS9 so I couldn't say if the alloy is less prone to rust.

KDSS too. Find a rust-free rig and do your maintenance on the KDSS system and this is a non-issue.

If the truck will end up where road salt is a thing the updated KDSS valve will have the same machined faces on the rest of it, which are all prone to corrosion.

I would say I'd second the idea, but I'm third in line. The hex head still has exposed threads that screw into a block of cast material that already had surface rust on my 2020 model. Then after an application of Boeshield T-9 (much like LPS9 mentioned above I expect), I followed up with a smeared on coating of Yamalube marine grease.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like there may have been more than I thought that was 'upgraded.' An update to the 2016 refresh I guess.

Cheers,
