It's not a matter of breaking them, the ride just gets really stiff, and you start bouncing off the upper bumpstops. About 1.5-2" is about maximum.

I've never done it personally, simply because I think the negatives outweigh the positives, but only about a 1/2 inch thread wise.

Be careful when your cranking them up. I've seen picturs where a broken piece of metal lodged themselves in the bottom of the floor pan.

Welcome to mud...

The torsion bars are about the only thing that doesn't break once you crank them up too much. It's your CVs, ball joints, idler arm etc...you should be worried about.

thanx guys im not worried about ride quality to much i had a jeep that was really still just kinda trying to get to 33s without spending a bunch of money a a lift kit is all

I have had a t-bar break on me after cranking it up on my 93 mini. Going 65 down the highway the front PS just dropped, I thought it was a flat at first. Pulled over and sure enough the tbar was in two!

I replaced with sway away torsion bars (talk about stiff).

If I were to do it again I would keep the sway away t-bars (with the least amont of tension on them) and do the UBJ spacers to regain some of that lost down travel.

Actually I am doing it again...but to an 85' xcab 4x4 (yes it has the SFA and 22re:steer:). Pics to follow.
