OK so I just got a letter in the mail that say's I cant drive for 3 month's ...

So naturally this is a good time to do a bit of work to my Toyota .

I will be testing my compression and oil pressure later this week as I have days off I will also post what I find .

I will decide if I will pull my engine down or just put a turbo on and go from there .

Thanks again to everyone for the input and I will update this later .

The benefit is, so long as you put steam bleeds in the head for each cylinder like the TD42 guys do, that using one of my turbos and ~ 23psi, you can get a nice to drive 140-150kW @ wheels (or even higher) just the same as the TD42 guys but with a nice OHC and smoother engine :-) This is rather more than the 45kW @ wheels that you have now (slooooow....).

Graeme what are these steam bleed's you are talking about ?

I did do a google search but I did not find anything ?

Thanks again Dave .

What is the fundamental difference between a 1HZ and 1HD-T injection pump?

Do they *need* swapped or just better swapped.

head, pistons, injection breaking pressure, injector lines and on and on .

Graeme.
Thanks good info on SMS and the turbo pistons, I´ll follow up on those.

I forgot that I asked the same question, X2:hhmm:

Great question, X2:cheers:

Ok so I said I will be testing compression and oil pressure on my day's off ..

Well I went out side to do just that today and I thought you know what ?

I think I will pull the engine so ....

I am not sure if I should start a new thread or just keep posting here ?? should I take this to 70 series section ..

Stay tuned for update's .

Ok so a quick update.

I got a little busy with normal life stuff so my engine is still in pieces it only took six months for me to measure my engine up once I striped it. It has been bored previously before I brought it.

My block, crank, head, rods, pistons and flywheel are all down in Melbourne getting machined and balanced.

The parts should all be back around the end of April early May I will post pics of the parts and bits and pieces as it all goes together.

In the mean time I came across a good running 1HZ for $600 so I brought it and put it into my cruiser in hind sight I should of found another engine and built it up then fitted it to my rig.

1HDT - 24valve

John,
...
To get the greater fuel economy, then you must convert the 1HZ to a 1HDT, so it becomes then direct injection (this is the reason for the economy improvement). This is a much bigger change. For this you need 1HDT (pistons + rods + head + injectors + inj pump + inj lines)
...
The upgrades come in many different forms - If you want to run 23+psi you will get a very different spec than 15psi...

Greetings Graeme,
You seem to be the guy to ask this, though I am a long way from a rebuild, the wheels are already turning on what to do with my 1HZ when the time comes, turbo etc. Looking for more efficiency, better economy with power when I need it.
Can one swap out the 1HTD 24-valve head with the 1HZ? Pros/Cons I understand the pistions, rods, pump etc. If so I would like to keep my eye out for a used one from a wreck or something. I will likely do things in stages as the pocket book and life allows

any updates dave ?

Update are as follows.

Block head and crank ect is back from being machined but I haven't really done much with it at this point. It's all been checked/measured and coated in INOX then wrapped in plastic.

I was out in the shed today getting a few things ready so I will probably have a bit of a more exciting update for you guy's in the next few weeks.

I was thinking of taking a week off work and just building it instead of trying to fit it in around this and that.

Hello guys, I am Indonesian (who is not bothered at all that Australian tapped the Indonesian officials, hehe). To sum up, the question, since I assume you guys have done the turbo-ing the 1HZ engine. i have done the garret turbo-ing on my 1HZ, since I also drove 1HDT. The power is different, the 1HZ is inferior to the 1HDT. The 1HZ I also install intercooler..... So, do I have to change the injection pump to the 1HDT to empower it? But 1HDT injection pump cost a fortune, is there any way that I just modified the 1HZ injection pump? Thanks

1 HDT head on a 1HZblock

Hello people.

Im rebuilding my 1HZ motor to 1HDT spec with a full 1HDT kit put through it.

Am i able to put a 24valve 1HDT head on my 1HZ block.???

If im able to what else do i have to change inc fuel rails pumps and all.????

Thanks Wayne.

Hi Wayne.

You can put the 24 vavle head on a 1HZ block but then you need to change the pistons because you go to direct injection and also you will need to change the con rods because the pin is a different size and height(?). You will also need a 1HDT fuel pump.

A good idea might be to find a 1HDT out of a wreak to take parts from.

It's not as big a job as it sounds to turn a 1HZ into a 1HDT... the block is the same with exception of a few small things like turbo drain facilities ect. It just requires you to get in and do it.
