Hey guys,

I need to do my injectors. Or at least i think I do. 1993 HZJ77 with 200k on it. The injectors look like they have never been touched. It blows a good amount of black smoke out when under acceleration and it feels slow as hell.

So i have 2 options really. I can get my OEM ones rebuilt or I can buy brand new aftermarket ones from Australia. I got a quote from fred holmes fuel injection here in Vancouver and they quoted me 950 to rebuild them with new nozzles etc etc.

Option#2 is buy some Australian aftermarket ones. they are about 600 bucks and there would be no downtime. This seems more appealing since its my daily driver. I dont want to buy s***ty injectors though....

Does anyone have experience with those aftermarket injectors? What would you do?

Blowing black and being slow are not necessarily symptoms of bad injectors.

1HZ's are slow, black = too much fuel which can be adjusted by tuning the injection pump.

I have reconditioned exchange injectors off eBay and they are fine but as Douglas points out you should probably check other things before splashing out on injectors. I would check compression as well as getting the pump tuned.

Paging @yotahed aka Jon.... Standup guy, I would go with him over Fred Holmes

I don't know as I am not him....

Ebay Australia actually. Although I'm confident that the Injectors are made in china.

Most likely ,although they could be made at a Denso factory in China for servicing Toyotas there. Denso built a factory there a few years back. They also make injector pumps.
With 200k on it ,the nozzles would be worn and the springs will have gone soft. If the wires are still intact on the fuel pump screws ,it will be the injectors.

Yeah i think you are correct. The wire on the fuel adjustment screw has been removed. ForealBoreal guided me through some diagnostics on the phone last night. Also i finally installed the EGT gauge and started playing with the fuel screw. I backed it off a half turn and it no longer smokes. EGT is about 1150 f at WOT on the highway. Feels super slow on the highway but this is my first 1HZ so i might be expecting too much.

I think I'm gonna proceed with the injectors for now.

I am also considering throwing a turbo on it soon but now that i need to injectors, and possibly an injection pump also this is getting expensive very quickly. ForealBoreal brought up a good point and mentioned it might be more cost effective/relaible to just swap for a 1HD-t and sell my engine as is since it is still in good working order.

I had my pump tuned up after I slapped a turbo on the ol' 1HZ. Jon charged me a couple hundred bucks. Of course it depends what all is being done but I'd recommend sending the pump and injectors to Jon at the same time
