I had a good look at my ACSD today. After starting the engine cold, there was a steady stream of fuel pouring out from just under the ACSD (hard to see exactly where it was coming from). When I put a screwdriver in and turned the ACSD lever ccw, the leak stopped. When I released the lever, it would start leaking again. It seemed to slow down and stop leaking once the engine warmed up.
So this would explain why I smell a strong diesel smell from the front left of the truck in recent weeks.
One thing I don't understand is what the ACSD actually does. When I manually turn the lever, there is no difference in how the engine runs. Cold or hot, the lever appears to be in the same position - which indicates that the thermowax is toast. I'm going to take it off permanently just the same.
Looks like I'll be shopping for a blanking plate, oring and hose union.
