One has to be careful with remanufactured heads as you never know what was done during the reman process aka welding cracks, over cutting valve seats, valve guide wear. If you're going to spend money on a head get a new bare casting.

Chitown, Yes That is the concern. We are heading in your direction but still looking for straight surface to start. Hand sanding the surface of our head is the only way we can currently find to resurface the gasket mating surface with the head so far out. A new head casting is about 1700 if I recall.

Howard that ebay head looks interesting but there are no valves. Whats up with that? I have never heard of a remanufactured head with no valves. I thought they were supposed to be bolt on ready to go. I have contacted the seller thank you.

Be careful with hand sanding. The key to good sealing is a certain surface irregularity on the deck of the head so you'll need to make sure there are no deep marks and in a non concentric, non directional motion.

Good price for that hunk of metal!

ChiTown Identified a valid concern with re-manufactured heads. I have contacted this seller to see what has been done to this head. Atleast he was honest with the amount he shaved. Looks like 15 thousands is a magic number. What do you guys think? I think I should pass. Please see below:

Dear JJG,

Never been welded or patched. Shaved about 0.015". If you send me the rest of the parts I can put them together adjust the valves and send it back to you for $300 extra. Thanks.

Dear pioneer556,

What has been done to this head? Has it been welded? How much was shaved off it? What I if I send you my valves. How much would it cost to have a head ready to bolt on? I cant see buying a blank casting. To me it cant be re-manufacture unless is it ready to bolt on.
Thanks,
- JJG

I would pass. I think the deal from Beno is your best bet.
