Is there a difference between the 1F and 2F carbs? It looks like they mount the same on the different intakes but I'm not sure if there is a difference between the actual carburetors themselves.

There are a lot of changes both large and small to carbs from 1979 to 1979. Every year is slightly different. Check out the pictures on Specter off road web site.

Is it a huge deal to cross fit carbs to a different year engine?

It is possible to interchange carbs, but it is easiest to swap F carbs with other F carbs and 2F with 2F carbs because of air filter and throttle linkage differences that are not so easy to deal with.

Thanks, that helps a ton!

I'll be running a D-40 single barrel carb on my '77. In hopes I'll gain better low end throttle response due to the larger throttle body. I've been running a cable actuator so the swap is a little easier.

What do you mean by cable actuator?

Depending on the year, some carbs were cable and some were mechanical actuated. Another difference is the single barrel carbs are mounted on two studs as opposed to 4 studs on the two barrel carbs.

The motor I bought is out of a 78, I don't really know anything about the motors themselves, I am just about to start my rebuild and I want to make sure I get it all right the first time. I appreciate the help.

There's also a problem with the dizzys. From about 1970 to 75 the stock dizzy is vacuum retard. Later models have vacuum retard and advance dizzy. These dizzys require a compatible carb in order to function properly to my understanding, even though they are on the same engine.
