Hi There and New to the Forum. I am hoping someone can assist me with an explanation of the best way for me to access and replace the fuel sending unit on my 5-Speed Manual 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ100 (GCC-spec) that was imported to the US from Saudi Arabia. The fuel sending unit on the SUB Tank (vehicle is fitted with dual tanks) suddenly stopped working this week and I have sourced a replacement. The fuel gauge itself pegs to full, which the tank is full, on start up but seconds later drops to dead empty and the fuel light starts flashing. From my reading online that's a sign the sending unit is dead. I am handy enough to replace this myself but before I dive in I wanted to see if this forum had any pointers on the best way to access the sending unit and then replace it. The SUB tank is immediately under the cargo area in the back of the Cruiser. Do I need to drop the tank? Is there an access panel under the carpet? Anything I should be aware of? Thanks in advance and I look forward to being a member of the forum. Thank you, MrDibbles.

Congrats on the find. I have a couple of Saudi trucks with sub tanks so mos def following your journey. Thanks for posting up.
My 100 Series shows no odd behavior, but the 79 behaved as described on posession, but no longer evidences "brain farts" or pre-failure behaviors.
Enjoy and cheers!
