What kind of LDS, Tapage? Is it a clutch type or something more like a Torsen that uses gears?

Clutch useless type ..

Actually Mr. T still sells useless rebuild kit ( clutches and bits )

Where did those continuation 80's go? Any at all in Central / South America, or did they go to the mid-East & Africa then?

Most of them were kept in Venezuela and Colombia, very few made to other Countries in South America Like Bolivia ..

I would guess since they were a continuation they used a seperate distribution network than the Toyota dealer network but no proof. Were they even badged as Toyotas, or are they a seperate animal entirely?

they were sold and distributed by regular Mr. T dealers and sold like any other regular Land Cruiser .. warranty from dealer and everything normal .. even those with " mods " like anniversary FZJ71 with non Toyota front bumper or winch ..

On the right one of those Venezuelan produced 80 ( 99 was the year of this one )

Do you know enough to say if they followed the equipment spec of Toyota produced 80's?

Sure they did .. with few small improvements from the 100 series like the coil pack 1FZ or the 32 splines rear axle ..

@Tapage - cool, kinda neat to hear about these later ones.

So in a prior post it sounded like the Arakawa made ones were the only ones in Panama:

on a related note .. we didn't get any 80 from Colombia or Venezuela .. all sold through Mr. T dealers came from Arakawa ..

Where did the Venezuela end up sold that you know of?

I was told a long time ago the dies for the bodies & such were sold to the producer in Venezuela, the motors for them were crate powertrains from Japan (very similar program to the Acura / Sterling deal of the late 90's).
I'd just expected since the bodies were made in Venezuela & assembly happened there it was a Toyota, but not one that Mr.T put a warranty behind.

Were these a LHD only, or is there a mix of both RHD & LHD?

We hear near zero about these it seems, so it's interesting. I see them in CL ads but that's all I know.

By the local dealer yes .. this one I had was an import and all others ( not many ) Venezuelan 80 here are import ..

All LHD ..

80 series production ends in Venezuela in 2006 IIRC

I know parts were made local, radiators, windshields etc .. but they were assembled in a Toyota plant in Cumaná
