my 22re was running good and i had the clutch in and it shut off and wont start now and its stuck in the trial, i put a new coil, plugs wires, distributer, cap, rotor. its getting fuel and its cranking over but it wont start if anyone knows wat i could be let me no

22re, shut off with no warning, i would use the paper clip and jump the e1 and t terminals (off the top of my head not sure if that is right) and check the codes, my experience would lead me to check the airflow meter, or tbs.

ditto. Jump T and E1 with a piece of wire. Turn on ignition but dont start. Count the flashes on the dash light and let us know what they are.

Some quick checks:
Is it getting spark? An engine needs three things to run. Spark, fuel and air. Pull #1 plug and see if its firing.

Check the crossover tube from the air flow meter to the intake for leaks. The rubber elbows are prone to cracking and leaking in un metered air causing the truck to run lean or not run at all.

rog-o... And the fastest way to tell is remove the distributor cap...

Then turn the engine. If the button doesn't turn, that's not good...

PS, IIRC, the Check Engine light has to be on 1st b/f there's even a code to pull on the diagnostics...

Trivia: And on an EFI, no Check Engine light with the key in the "ON" position means the ignition is dead!

I bet it looks like this:

Poor engine was made to run all the way up to, and past it dying... Poor thing... Improper PM and krappy parts have slandered the reputation and killed many a good truck...

However, mine broke do to my own mistake.... water pump bolt stuck too far through the timing cover, jammed the chain tensioner. Chain flopping fatigued and broke the metal timing chain guide which then fell and went between the chain and crank gear... and...... POP!

oh and here is a question, does the engine crank unusually fast when this happens? i had a car that the timing belt broke, and just shut off, when i tried to start it it sounded like i had a high compression starter on it.

well i have to say that is a first for me, even though i have used inferior parts, damn that sucks!

The thing about using cheap parts is you know when you put them in, and how. When you buy a 2nd, 3rd 9th owner, you never know that...

Valves stopped open, no compression. Like when you prime the oil pump on a 22R. Remove the plugs and turn it over until the light goes out...

I'm guessing that's the sound you're referring to.
