1990 4x4 22re dipstick length.

Can someone give me the length for the dipstick of a 22re in a 1990 4x4 pickup? I am wondering if the one in my engine is the correct one. It doesn't really fit tight and when I changed the oil I think I only put a little more than four quarts of oil in it until it read full.

All three of my 22RE's take approx. 4.5 quarts when doing an oil change. Question is how much more past 4 quarts did you add?

Hmm, well maybe I'm ok with the length then. The looseness still bothers me, but I can live with it.

Here's my redneck fix for the loose dipstick. I took some shrink wrap and cut a 1/4" piece and slid it from the bottom to the top of the dipstick. Heated it up 'til it was nice and snug and presto no more loose dipstick.

Also you will have a false reading if you check it after changing the oil and filter but before you run it so the new oil filter fills up... That could explain a little bit of your issue...

Yeah, I filled it, checked it, ran it, checked it. Seems to be staying where it should be. I think I am just being paranoid...

You might have to use multiple layers of heat shrink wrap depending on how worn the dipstick is.

soooo... what I've just worked out here is that in order to get a new dipstick I would end up sacrificing a night of debauchery and good times? I think I'll stick with shrink wrap.
