2LT, 2LTE heads are NLA
You can’t use Megazip/Partsouq/Amayama as a gauge for availability. Those vendors also say they have parts in stock that are NLA. 2 weeks after ordering you get a refund for the keystone part you needed and get stuck with a box of other parts that were supposed to bolt to it that you can’t use…

It's not quite so clear cut. Yes, the Japanese based catalogues of Amayama and Megazip are often out of date (Amayama are suddenly showing all NLA parts as being available to order again - hopefully a mistake that will be fixed), but the above vendors (or at least Amayama and Partsouq - I have never ordered from Emirates through Megazip) selling stock from Emirates are relaying true stock levels. If Partsouq shows stock, they (or rather their supplier) have those items in stock. It can of course happen that by the time they process your order, the item has been sold, but in my experience, with genuine Toyota parts, this is pretty unusual. And even if you just miss the item, it's as good as guaranteed that the part is still in production. Ocassionally it happens that you can buy parts from Emirates which are not sold on the Japanese market.

Requesting an availability check before ordering that keystone part from Japan costs nothing and takes 2-3 working days with Amayama.

About 2LT/2LTE specific heads, I am not sure what the differences were (I seem to remember ceramic combustion chambers in the 2L-TEC) but I think everyone uses the 3L head.

It'll only help one person, if at all.... But I've got an upgraded 3L head in the box on my shelf, and have since I got the 2LT-E into the faux-lux. Never needed it. The faux-lux has worn out the engine (all 4 cylinders are low compression) and when I get around to getting it drivable again I'll probably be looking at another engine swap to a more modern diesel.

So there's at least one 3L head hiding around the world. ;)

Dan
Dan do you still have that head?

Megazip/Partsouq/Amayama were all out and that same part number when I wrote that first post. So this is great news some are back in stock now!! Thanks much for checking.

II was under impression the 5L/E head was not backward compatible to the 2L or 3L. Something about cam is at a different height and timing belt doesn't work...? I should look back into it. 5L has bigger valves, so might flow better.
hey did you ever find out if the 5l heads work on the 2l t? cant afford new heads and the only l series engines left here in new zealand are 3l and 5ls

See this thread:

I can assure you that a 3L head fits on a 2L block. But I've not yet got my hands on a 5L.

Hello, I just stepped in to Prado Land and need to fix my 1992 2lte cracked head. I have removed the head and it is cracked and cast iron. Thought they were aluminum. So what head do I look for? Is the one I have aftermarket? Shoud I buy a head from the Dealership, Megazip? Should I transfer the valves and cam to the new head or are they not any good? I also can't tell on Megazip which head gaskets are thick or thin. My old one has letters and numbers that kind of match one on Megazip, but was it the right one? Please don't tell me to look for an ls400 motor. I guess what I am asking for is a market list and torque specs. Thanks for any help.

Toyota heads are still available, I just built one for a customer
Any tricks to letting a USA dealer sell you a 3L head if you don't have a 3L truck registration? i sent in paperwork for a 2Lte truck and they denied my request because "its not the right head for the truck"
