To preface I have pulled the gas tank off my parts rig and while it wasn't a lot of fun it wasn't too bad. I know the standard process.

THE TWIST: The PO welded the rear sway bar mounts further back on the frame to accommodate the SOA I guess. Normally you would just unbolt them to give the tank room to come out but I can't do this.

My plan is to lift the body off the frame enough to shimmy it out. Anybody got any better ideas?

I'd carve them out n then fab up bolt in replacements. You'd think it should be fairly easy to do so with the tank outta the way.
I have an extra set of the brackets so I could do that. What tool would you use to cut those out cleanly in that tight space. Cutting wheel is too bulky

I would slice right through the frame rail with the cut off wheel on the opposite side so it cut right thought the weld. Then you could go back after and weld/grind your cuts.

Reciprocating saw with a quality metal cutting blade. Blades are different tooth counts for thickness of stock. I've been happy with the "torch" blade from millwaukie i think they are.

Ended up using this method. Hacked up the mount pretty good but I have an extra pair so not a big deal.
