Greetings from Patagonia Argentina,

This is BJ75LV-KR (Resto of the world) Registered in Argentina as a 1988. She was imported by a fellow from my same town and registered new in 1988. 500k km and 3E seems in good shape. Has the OEM rood rack (drilled) and spare on the back door. Runs well other than a bad AC clutch and an issue with the vacuum system for the transfer (need to confirm it's a solenoid later today or tomorrow). Plan is to get her in the body shop in a week, fix the rust issues and get her back in E49 Tan , replace windshield and W/S (also replace back glass). So far idea is to keep it stock other than the 32" tyres. No plan to load her up so I am reluctant to stiffer springs or a lift kit. I go for confort and getting the kids into the mountains and back, also frequent drives in winding mountain roads. Only option right now is to "re-bend" stock leaf springs, I didn't find OEM spec OME or the sort. Shocks where changed by the previous owner and should be OEM (they are blue) A bull bar would be useful in my area, but I am also reluctant about the added weight and also like the clean lines of the front end (still not sure....). Roof rack could be painted black as it needs to be refinished. If I decide to disregard the ARB BULL BAR, front bumper would go for repair and chroming.

Any thoughts on my plan are appreciated as any warnings or suggestions for when she is delivered to the body shop.

Thats a nice combination and a good platform to build on.
I doubt that rear leaf spring can be retensioned. It doesnt appear to sit on its locating lug. OEM shocks were always black in Australia, at least on the 90- models.

Thanks for the comments on shocks, I appreciate the input. Yes, listed parts online also black!

Hello,

x2.

OEM shocks are black. For most applications they are good.

The two leaf springs on the bottom appear to have a broken front end. The leaf over them seems broken, or very close to breaking. I would not re-arch them.

Leaf springs are available from Toyota but they can be expensive.

It is possible that the transfer lever and actuator need lubrication. They tend to get stuck if not used frequently.

Welcome to the madness.

Nice Rig! Would definitly add an ARB Bull Bar. Good protection + awesome looks.
Also would upgrade suspension, as it will give you a better ride. This things tend to be harsh!

Keep us updated on her progress!

Cheers from Buenos Aires

From one Troopy owner to another, it looks GREAT! Can't wait to see what you do with it. On a different note, I second adding a bullbar, and not just for the looks. Last Christmas this guy was on his phone, and didn't see his light turn red... And of course my FJ62 I owned at the time was just in his path! I turned into him with my ARB Bullbar at the last second to prevent him from hitting my unguarded panel and I'm so glad I did. His car was totaled, suspension destroyed, airbags deployed, etc. The 62 on the other hand, well just look at the pics for yourself. (Excuse the Christmas attire the 62 was rocking) That was the only damage done to my car, the paint wasn't even fully scraped off. It felt like I was playing bumper cars.
Cheers

Yes, made out of Teflon I was told.

With the feedback to this post I ended up ordering new OME Leaf Springs. In about 45 days they should get here...
