get a set of Marlin Crawler 4.7 gears for the transfer case and drive it. Then you can build off of that. You'll have a nice low 98:1 crawl ratio, and if you decide you want to go slower than that then you can go dual cases.

Something to think about before going single 4.7 case - 5th gear with a 4.7 case is pretty much exactly the same overal gearing as high range 1st. So high range, first gear, is your effective top speed in low range without shifting back to high.

My vote, for a comparable price, will be for dual stock geared cases over a single 4.7 every time. More versatile, lower overal ratio(2.28x2.28=5.2:1), and the only downside is some minor d-shaft and floorboard mods.

Personally, I appreciate a stock low range for casual wheeling while still having decent top speed without having to shift back to high range.

I run a 2.28x4.7, and find myself using the 2.28 in the reduction box more than the 4.7 or double low...don't get me wrong, the options are super nice for technical stuff, but I personally wouldn't want a single 4.7 case.

short blocks are just the block, long blocks are more complete engines. I can't recall all the parts of the top of my head. But the terms have nothing to do with the actual type of engine :)

Seeing as how nobody has answered the regearing price yet I'll give it a shot. the price can vary greatly. the gears can run anywhere from $120 to $200 for a ring and pinion for one dif. installation is the difference. if you are skilled enough to do it yourself its the cost of resealing your axle after you are done and your time. If not its gonna be upwards of $300 dollars per axle for a decent job at any shop. and thats cheap really... plus the price of gears. so anywhere from $300 to almost $1500 can be expected. regearing aint cheap and if it's done wrong you can fry the difs and 3rd members

I didn't think to answer lockers either. to be honest locker prices ccan vary a LOT. from free.99 to like $3000 2 ARB Air lockers and installation. You can weld your diff for free but im not a big fan because welds are probably the weakest form of a locker and your axles are always locked. its not too much to get a spool and they are FAR stronger in my opinion and experience. (yes ive used both). again they leave the axle always locked though. then there are auto lockers that can range from $300 to $900 for a good one. then elockers and ARB air lockers are upwards of $1000 a piece and are absolutely AWESOME! depends on how you are gonna use this truck really.

Update for everyone.

I bought a low miliage used engine from a scrap yard for a pretty good price and installed the Marlin Crawler 4.70:1 XD low gear, and put Aussie lockers in the front and rear axles. This is quite the machine now. I got the slow speed tractor type of preformance i wanted. I havent came across anything yet that I havent been able to go through or over (air down) and I am not ripping up the "Tundra" which is a big deal here.

The aussie's lockers as well as everything else lasted the winter without a hitch. This was a pretty cold winter for us this year dropped down to -40 C for a bit but mostly hovered around -30 -35ish

Thanks for all your suggestions guys.
