oncei overheated my 22re BIG TIME while doin 6000rpm in deep, loose sand on the beach in Hatteras and overcrushed the head gasket from the head distorting,,,,we pulled off the ps pump bracket, valve cover, rockers and left the manifolds on and set the cam gear resting on the guides, lifted the head(still wired for sound)about 1 inch just enough to slip out the old head gasket and slip a new one in and it worked fine on the 600 mile drive home and beyond...............i dont really advise this but it is a testament to the stoutness and precision engineering of the 22re

First off I's like to say thanks fpr all of the replies and help with this project. It really is not a bad job. All is back together and running well, I just have a little lifter chatter and yes both the intake and exhaust valvles were adjusted after warm to .008 & .012 respectively in the order in which the FSM indicates. Any possible causes of the chatter that you can think of?

Thanks

When you say a little tight what gap are you talking about for the intake and exhaust?

Yeah,

It has the sewing machine sound.

Okay I have went back in and adjusted the valves to .007 & .011 and I still have the sewing machine sound. What can it be, I do not want to get them any tighter? Suggestions???
