Heads up if anyone is interested in pre-purchasing this prior to it hitting ebay:

Year: 1984
Make: Toyota
Model: Land Cruiser
Style: Troop Carrier
Doors: 2
Motor: Diesel
Transmission: Manual
Drivetrain: 4WD

This Troopcarrier is in amazing condition for its age. There are a couple of very, very small areas of rust just starting to come out but apart from that this is a solid rig. Frame is excellent as are floors, firewall, "B" pillar and drip rails. Front seats are not factory but in good condition. Rear seats are in good condition. Includes: large roof rack with ladder, bull bar, rear step. It is set up for A/C but there is no compressor etc. There is some under dash equipment in the vehicle.

Brakes are on spongy side, I will have them looked at when it arrives. They probably just need a bleed as the pedal pumps up.

U$8,975
Price is landed in Charlotte, NC container is well on its way - ETA 3/30/14 and will take a week to clear Customs.

Will be listed on ebay for $9,990 no reserve if it hasn't sold prior to arrival.

Was excited until I saw the re-painted vin plate. How many kilometers on the engine and vehicle overall? Any other maintenance/drivetrain/mechanical issues or information to share?

I am in NC, maybe 20 miles from the port, and can provide a free covered parking place if it would help the buyer to pick up nearer to Wilmington than Charlotte? And depending on the height of the troopy, I have an enclosed trailer and a capable tow vehicle available to aid in transport if necessary.

I am tempted to buy it myself but . . . ? I don't know. If I was going to import one, I am just not sure it would be this one. Tell us more please.

Look at the pictures there should be one of the odometer.

I can't tell you anything more than what I have. I am not sure if you are familiar with our company but we ship lots of containers to Australia and send our packing materials back with a vehicle or two to offset the cost. I know as much bout it as the seller was willing to disclose. We clean them, photograph them and give as much disclosure as we can. We don't ask crazy money for them as the price reflects and we have a lot of happy clients because of it.

It gets unloaded out of the container in Charlotte. We have a fully operational and staffed warehouse in Charlotte that is secure so we don't need storage. We have a full time staff person that is our Transport Manager so we can provide any transport required.

We would be more than happy to ship your one. Please keep in mind that this vehicle represents excellent value for money.

Taking a Look

If it doesn't sell before it gets here- Is there going to be an interim between when the container arrives and when it goes on ebay that I can come down and take a look? I am considering having you ship a troopy over for me- so it would be good to come down and take a look, take it for a test drive (if it runs that is)- just meeting your crew might be worth the trip and perhaps this troopy will be the one that I am looking for.

I would have no problem buying off Phil. The truck is what it is and he is not going to bull s*** you when he has his name on this truck . The only reason I'm not buying it is I'm going ute first then troopie.

There will be a short period, maybe a day or so - we are in the shipping business not the storage business :)

Even if it is on ebay you can come and drive it. Yes it does run. Stopping was a little on the spongy side but there is a big bull bar there to help with that.... my NC Warehouse Manager is a qualified mechanic, I will have him look at the brakes when it gets there, they probably just need a bleed as the pedal pumps up.

Have you thought about a long bed ute? I have a sawzall...

Hi, Any cruisers these days ,that old ,should be considered needing extensive work The price seems fair. Mike

Thanks Mike, if you aren't spending tens of thousands of dollars on a 30+ year old 4WD then you are getting something that needs work. The key is to try and balance the purchase price with the amount of work that needs to be done.

Phil,
Will this have a NC title? And did I read the odometer correctly... over 300k kms I assume? (180+k mi?) This isn't my dream cruiser, but the price is about right, and I'm getting tired of looking and waiting for the right one to come around.

Matt

Matt,

Yes 339,000km/210,644 miles - presuming the odometer is working. I didn't think to check it! Will have to wait till it comes out of the can now.

I had not considered getting a NC title as the buyer will likely not be in NC. If it needs a title to make the sale then we can work something out.

Is it hard to title in MA without already being titled in another state?

I don't know a lot about NC as I lived in OR (easy to get a title but you have to show the vehicle for a VIN check but no sales tax) and WA (easier to get a title as you only need paperwork but you have to pay sales tax).

Cheers

Not sure about the difficulty factor, but Taxachusetts rips us on the tax!

I have registered a Colombian imported truck in FL. You can check to see if your state has a reciprocal agreement for sales taxes with NC.

My understanding is the truck will clear the port with the 2 waiver forms for EPA and DOT. In my case they never gave me a nice paper saying approved (govt for you!) but essentially the truck won't clear the port without the EPA/DOT waivers.

To register it in my case I went to the County Police/DMV office where they physically looked at the frame number on the chassis and on the data plate on the firewall. They also looked at the paper work/registration from Colombia that was in my name. They also checked the import/bill of lading?? that showed the truck model year and frame number.

Once I got that approval I then registered the truck in my county in FL with FL tags.

Technically you could buy it in NC and just take all those papers to your state with a bill of sale. Meaning never title it in NC. title it in your state. Not sure each state is different. Actually each county is different.

That is a lot of metal for $10,000. Good luck to whoever buys it. Cool truck.

Thanks for your input. We have been importing for 14 years and have vehicles in just about every state in the lower 48 with the exception of some in the NE.

Occasionally you come across a bone head at the DMV that doesn't know what they are doing and give you grief but generally it is a smooth and easy process to title these vehicles as they are all legally imported.

I can't imagine it will last too much longer, there are several people interested and I am sure it won't make it as far as ebay.

Looks like it is not that bad:

I assume the entry duty fee will already be paid? I hope the Troopy is not considered a truck. (25% fee for trucks)

This is from the Mass website:

Vehicles from Countries other than Canada

To title an imported foreign vehicle from all foreign countries except Canada, a customer must present all of the following:

1. RMV-1 Form

2. Previous Registration

3. One of the following U.S. Customs Entry Forms*

• CF 3299 - Declaration for Free Entry of Unaccompanied Articles

OR

• CF 7501 - Entry Summary

4. Bill(s) of Sale providing a complete chain of transfers and ownerships

Unfortunately, Uncle Sam just whacked me on my tax return, so my Cruiser dreams are on hold for now.

This will give Phil some time to find me an affordable BJ44 or 46?

Thanks!

Yes Duty will already be paid.

1. You would complete.

2. We supply.

3. CF 7501 supplied.

4. We supply

I don't believe we have/had BJ44/46 in Aus. May be wrong but I have never seen one.
