Just saying

I would also say he is wrong. I have yet to see a right hand drive FJ43 in the states. And up to last year that number was probably pretty accurate...probably less. I know it for a fact that I have counted 12 in this country so I'm sure there are more than the ones I know about.

I can also tell where that most likely came from, where that top was made, and that it was completely restored here in the states...not where it came from...lots of little hints. Seems to have done a very high quality restoration though.

Now someone make me a deal on mine and rebuild it the way you want.

Comparing to what I've seen others go for in the last year though I would say that is a pretty accurate price of what he will get for it. I just saw one with a diesel go for over $50K a few weeks ago.

I have a great friend who happens to also be an army buddie of mine and is originally from Colombia. When he and I were deployed this last time we discussed possibly shipping 43's here and selling them as is. Since the dollar continues to weaken, it just doesn't seem worth it.

if I was to gain enough interest, I'd reconsider. I think I could get solid LHD 43's to someone's door for under 20k. Of course this means unrestored, 2f, non usa models. You could throw that extra 10- 20k to make it how you want. Most have the SA made hard tops, 60/40 seats, no roll bar, winged front windowed doors, etc. I do see occasional soft tops there.

That is pretty much the way it is. The dollar doesn't go that far down there these days, and the amount of paperwork and costs associated with moving cars out of the country of Colombia is extremely high compared to somewhere like New Zealand or Austrailia. 15K was my original mark for solid FJ43's but shipping, fees, and paperwork eat up over way over 1/3 of that budget instantly. Then the price of finding a car that hasn't been completely ruined by Colombian hack jobs (though nice on the surface, usually be lucky to get a half ass solution to anything they fix) it makes it hard. One of them that I wanted to bring in got a 3% out of 100 on frame integrity. You would have never known from pictures. Then the price of a restored one in that country is actually higher than we pay for our restored cruisers here due to the taxes and value of vehicles down there. Buying a vehicle from a country with no rust is priceless though. Makes tear down on my current FJ43 super easy in comparison to my last one.

You might be right on if it is worth it or not. It is working for some people as I know of about 10 that have gone for over 40K a piece just this year alone...but maybe the lower end market like I'm trying to do to help people who want one, afford one, isn't going to work. I guess we will see.

Anyone interested in an FJ43 let me know. The one noted above should be in country in about a month and I can find something more specifically tailored for those in Cali who need pre 1975...(though there are not nearly as many of those down there). There seems to be groups of years where sales were high and then dry spells where some years are absent all together.

The 1984 FJ43 on ebay sold for $69,700!

Unfortunately selling on Ebay for $69,700.00 and the owner actually receiving $69,700.00 can be difficult.:)

A lot of the ebay sales do not go through. Some are sham sales, no real buyer. The last vehicle I had on ebay the top two bidders flaked out, one even gave me a $500 deposit, and disappeared.
