Hey all

I am moving to South Surrey in the next few months and am looking to downsize my small fleet of vehicles. As it stands I have three autos and a motorcycle. What am I getting to you ask? Well one I will be parting with is one of the last North American BJ42's produced (one of 236) Its a 1984 BJ42 24 Volt. A short summary as follows:

-factory disc brakes
-factory five speed tranny
-factory power steering
-24 volt Canadian spec
-3B Diesel engine
-290,000 km
-reliable daily driver

Engine, body, frame, and Vin all original. It has the usual rear tub rust near the rear quarters. It is UNRESTORED and UNMODIFIED (minus shocks, tires and wear and tear items)

Has original paint and is a perfect candidate for restoration. I myself to not have the skill, time, or funds to do it justice and have come to the conclusion that it needs a good owner who appreciates its heritage.

Am thinking of posting it on Ebay or Muds classified page to see international interest but for sentimental reasons wanted to see if any of the locals would be interested.

She's a beauty

Hey Dustin,

Post up some pics if you can. I suspect there would be more interest in the U.S.A. given the larger market down there, so post up in the MUD classifieds. Also post links to shipping companies and your postal code (or one near you), so buyers can estimate their own shipping. Post links to importing vehicles into the States as well.

Just trying to save you the annoyance of dozens of e-mails regarding shipping and importing. Those will drive you crazy.

Did you have a selling price in mind?

P.S. Justin, don't even think about it!

here are some pics.. They mostly show the over all vehicle but I made sure to include the warts as well

Very nice. Good luck with the sale.

If I could swing it I'd restore it with steel with all the ribs and original character then enjoy driving it around the sunny okanagan with the top off.

Can't help but wonder if this is what you're selling then what are you keeping?

Yeah I know..... Its going to hurt but I just don't have the time or knowledge to do it justice. I am keeping my bike (F800GS) and car for a daily driver.

frame is solid front to back.

Well I had an offer last winter for $17000.00 so I think that's my asking price.

Dustin

I dissagree, I think if it goes North America wide, that price would be easily had. I appreaciate giving locals first dibs. I sold an 81 BJ42 for 10,000 years ago, although it was in much better shape you have to take into consideration this one is and 84 with power stearing and a 5 speed, someone will want it bad enough to pay, they don't make these anymore and there a only a select few out there that arn't molested. Plus 17 is the starting price, a reasonable offer might get accepted.
my 2 cents.

I'd call the guy if he's still willing.
Yes, it's a rare truck, but even with a good frame there is a lot of body work to be done to get it to a great condition. Good body work isn't cheap. You would have to find the right buyer, at the right time, which means you might have to wait a while.
The rust is the killer, many will look at that and it might be a turn off. Some can do the work themselves. Replacing the tub is still $3000 in parts alone (aqualu). If you are not in a rush and can afford to wait for the right buyer, then you might get what you're asking. Personally, and if I was seriously looking - which I am not, rarity isn't that big of a factor, I would look at the vehicle in a more practical way and see how much I have to put into it and then see what the end project is worth. Every buyer is different though.

thats pretty cool but not 17 grand cool. a good way to put a price on a rig is ask yourself how much you would be willing to pay for one if you were in the market and would pull the trigger and buy it. thats how i usualy sell my crap if i actually want to sell something.

i dont think this seller would pay 17 grand to buy this rig. it will take a min of another 10 to get it to the point where it will last another ten years and at that point, 27 grand will go a long way.

Oh for sure it needs a lot of body work. My plan was to go 1/2 or 3/4 tub steel then the rest is not to shabby. It is a fact that a lot if not most people looking for a cruiser would not pay this much. It will be the true enthusiast who has the desire for a rare stock vehicle (that will only appreciate in value as the years go on) that will buy it.

Some love the 40 series for the look, ruggedness and would be happy with owning one of many gassers with an aluminum tub, while a few want the best of the last.

As for the $17000.00 Seattle guy, I have no numbers for him or it would probably be gone.

Just saying

Dustin
