Hello there ! So good to join these beautiful community , this is my 1st post , so sorry in advance if i'm posting in the wrong thread

I've started my learning process as i'm about to export a 2nd hand , fully original 1983 bj40 from Panama to NY . I've been restoring cars for almost 20 years now and have a lot of experience in restorations , but doing an export / import for the 1st time .

MY main question is the following - Does anyone here know what's are the limitations / recommended tire size for having the least amount of worries while importing the car ?

in all of the good and detailed articles that i've found regard importing a classic car into the US , i read that the car should have no Modifications and need to look as close to it's original state. My BJ that has a 16 inch wheels with bigger tires than the ones who came as the radial stock from Toyota . Should i replace them for the shipping ?

Does anyone here knows what's are the limitations / recommended tire size for having the least amount of worries while importing the car ?

I will add some pics tmrw of the wheels that i have + size .

thanks in advnace

Never had anyone say anything about tire size when I’ve imported cars from overseas. The EPA wants the engine and any applicable emissions equipment to be original and unmodified, and the NHTSA might complain if the body or chassis were modified significantly enough to affect the vehicle’s safety, but tire size? Unless they’re HUGE, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I imported two FJ45 and never got asked about the tires. the main things is no modifications to the vehicle in term of engine and chassis "main things".
