wow, thats done....
get a 13bt and be done with it, or a 15b(f)t

Likely keeping the B as is for now.
Is it ok to just swap the one piston and cylinder sleeve? Anything else I should consider doing while head is off?

no one does this, as i think it dosent make sense....buy once cry once kinda deal

How badly damaged is the liner itself once you scrape off all the aluminum?
If you just want to keep it rolling without spending time or money, then clean it up and change the piston - it'll probably run fine for a while.
Adding a new liner and machining to fit is probably too much effort in tear down hours to justify I expect??

IMHO its always cheaper to do it right the first time than to do it again. You are balancing fixed cost that don't change much like head gasket, labor to R/R vs. new piston/ring/liner.

Today you know the price and availability of parts - Next year - who knows but I'm sure it will cost more

Dropped off the head at the machine shop Friday. Hopefully it’s not cracked. Should find out in about one week.

I took off the Injectors and injection pump yesterday and will drop those off at the shop this week. Not sure what the turnaround time for those will be yet.

I’m currently fighting with the piston. It won’t come up thru the top of the cylinder. Next thing I’m trying is scraping off the aluminum that fused into the top of the sleeve to see if that’s what’s preventing the piston from coming out. The piston otherwise moves freely through the entire cycle it just won’t go more than 1/8 inch above/past cylinder wall.

To my untrained eyes the sleeves look good too but not sure what they are supposed to look like 😬

You all raise valid points. The other 3 pistons look brand new. I can even make out the part numbers on the faces so I’d guess they have very little time on them. I’m hesitant to do anything to those but may end up swapping them too. Turns out most of these parts are sold in sets so I’d have to buy all sets of rings for example though “if it ain’t broke…”

Appreciate all of your responses. I’ll keep you all updated.

Rookie question warning ⚠️ haha
Once I buy the new sleeve and install it will I have to get the sleeve machined so the new piston fits?
If that’s the case then I’m really going to have to pull the engine block off and take it to the machine shop? Trying to avoid this if at all possible.

sleeves have to be pulled and pressed with the block out anyways, i should think.
in any event the sleeve protrusion has to be exact and i believe this is usually done by machining.
In the truck is not a good idea....
possible maybe, easiest way no
