1981 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER HJ47 DIESEL TROOPCARRIER

Toyota 2H Diesel Six Cylinder
Four Wheel Drive
Four Speed Manual Transmission
Manual Steering
Power Drum Brakes

Hello...

I have a beautiful 1981 HJ45 Toyota Landcruiser HJ47 Diesel Troopcarrier for sale. This this a great example of an original, stock, unmolested Troopy. Its just been repainted original color of off white with a white top. Powered by the original Toyota 2H six cylinder diesel engine (the 2H diesel was the bigger newer version), Rugged 4x4, power brakes, manual steering, manual transmission with four speed, tires in great condition.

Overall this truck is in EXCELLENT condition and I encourage a full inspection by the buyer. The truck starts right up, drives great, brakes correctly, drives straight and solid down the road with good power and keeps up with traffic on the freeway.

The only bad that I know of is that the gas gauge is currently not working but I am NOT a mechanic and recommend a personal inspection and or have a mechanic check the truck out.

No rear seats, originally these came with troopcarrier seats along the side but you can easily install forward facing seats, jump seats or contact Specter Off Road for a set of original troopcarrier seats.

These trucks are very solid and were made to go slow and steady straight up a mountain or through a river. They were not made to go 80mph down the freeway or to handle like a race car so if you want those qualities then Id recommend buying a 2012 FJ. But if you want the most stylish/durable 4x4 truck built to drive to your Landcruiser club meetings, or have people wave, stare and ask what kind of truck it is then Id say buy a HJ47 Troopcarrier. They are very easy to work on and use all the same parts as the common FJ40s. The only difference from the FJ40 is the extended chassis and the diesel engine. For parts and more information check out Specter Off Road or go to IH8MUD.com. They can get you anything and answer any question you'd ever have about this vehicle.

The truck will be sold with a clean California title. It DOES NOT need to be smogged in California because its exempt being a 1981 diesel. The truck is right hand drive which is completely legal and very easy to get used to. The truck is located in sunny San Diego and the asking price is $17,400. I am willing to help with shipping but it is the responsibility of the buyer to find and pay for a shipping company. Contact me at richardshep@hotmail.com if you are interested in the truck, if you know anyone else who might be interested in a Landcruiser, or if you no longer want to be contacted. Thanks Rich

I have never owned a Troopy, a Diesel or a Right Hand Drive Imported Cruiser. I'd like some insight from those who have?

I have an FJ45 troopy from Australia and it is my favorite vehicle to drive. The diesels are slower than a 2f. One of mine has an H engine and it reminds me of a tractor engine. Still fun to drive though.

I owned a 1978 HJ45 Pickup ( H ) diesel for a number of years and enjoyed every minute of it. A "H" powered Cruiser is no rocket but going fast is vastly overrated. :)

I'm going to be in San Diego for 3 weeks starting this weekend. If anybody wants me to go by and take a look at this truck let me know. I may just swing by out of interest anyway.

Gorgeous! Would love to see more pics and hear more of the history of this truck.

Interested. If you have time. Heck I may end up having you drive It home to Breck.

I actually could do that!

Does anyone want me to check this out? I am here in SD for the next five days...

I would like to check it out myself but CA is a long haul. I like these trucks but I'm not sure that have nearly the appeal of the regular FJ40. This has been for sale for awhile. It would be nice if it had the jump seats. I'm sure a they would set me back a pretty penny. Don't make the trip on my behalf but If you go look at it, let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Greg

I own a right hand drive land rover series iii 109 and it's about a two week learning curve getting used to the right hand drive. Once your past the two week mark it's easy.

I have a RHD 80 series and love it.

The only thing that sucks is trying to go to a drive through, especially when it's at a toll gate where you have to pull a ticket or pay with cc or something with a machine (You have to unbuckle yourself, climb over the center console and lean over like no tomorrow to get the deed done).

But that'a a small price to pay, right? :hillbilly:
