See if Northwest offroad is still in business...........they used to carry a header for small block chevy swaps, perhaps they have something for the 4.3. DId you try advance adapters........if they don't have one they might know who does.

ANother option is to find a good old hot rod guy who can build you a set. I think that because of space restrictions you might not be able to build or buy a set that will increase performance. So it might not hurt to go with stock exhuast manifolds. Good luck and happy motoring.

I think most newer vehicles came with a factory header like manifold! I'd stick with whats stock, if you have that handy. Motor was designed for it, so it should operate smoother. A 4.3 is a HUGE step up in power from the factory 4cyl!

i agree with above. if you have the factory header and you can make it fit, leave it alone. A LOT of flow analysis went into the design of those chambers and my bet is anything that some aftermarket company has that "fits" for a conversion did not have any flow analysis done for efficiency and performance. some guy named bubba just started bending pipes until he got something that connected up and then got it chromed plated so its a performance exhaust now. plus the factory computer will like it better than any aftermarket one.

even if it is a little "restrictive" for the size of the motor. there will still be gobbs more power than the stocker. so...just leave it alone if you can.

I have searched for the infamous "factory header" and could not find it! I ended up makeing a set for my swap but it was no where near a typical swap. I have also held a set of Sanderson headers and was IMPRESSED. I think that they would be your best bet.

made in china chevy pos.

Any info to back up such a claim? Pretty sure they still do most of their blocks and heads at the Saginaw Central Foundry, especially back when the 4.3 was made. Don't think they've made any since 2003 or 2004.

Or perhaps this is just baseless Toyota elitism without any regard for the 4.3 Vortec being a well designed V6 with a decent power band and easily sourced parts? I'd love to see a 3.0 or 3.4 live with the same power levels some guys have made with the 4.3.

To the OP, if you can afford Sandersens and they make a 4.3 header I'd give them a shot. They're essentially SBC manifolds missing the last cylinder IIRC, it's been a while since I toyed with one.

it's exactly that.
4.3 may be a good motor, but it's still the equivalent of desecrating hallowed ground.

Different perspectives.:meh:

You can find them in an 08' express van 1500 or silverado.

I would have no issue seeing the 3.4 toyota put out power like that, its a freaking fantastic motor, but the 3.0 i doubt.

gotta say, the 4.3 is a good GM motor, i've driven my far share of s10's and my tacoma- the 3.4 is just a smoother engine IMO.

we all know the 4.3 V6 takes a back-seat to the 2.8 V6, or maybe I got that one backwards...

Suprised to see them made that late, I haven't come across any since the S10s were discontinued.

I have no qualms about either toyota V6, I wheel with and have wrenched on 3.4s and 3.0s. I have yet to see a 3.4 push 500 bhp though, something I've seen 4.3s do. However this thread was not asking anything more than what he should do for exhaust on his 4.3 swap.

I know of a stock Syclone (turbo 4.3 AWD S10) locally that puts down 400+ ft lb of torque with rumors of some putting down more on syty boards. The factory seemed to underate them at 280 bhp and 350 ft lb of torque. They weren't that much different from any other 4.3, it would not be tough to make a "clone". However they are more expensive to rebuild than a small block chevy since there isn't a high demand for parts.

The 2.8 V6 was a sorry excuse for a motor, my mom had a '91 Firebird with one and it really was a joke. It was a sad failure of GM during the 80's smog fallout. However the 3.8 Buick Turbo 6 was a screamer :steer:.

I was just cracking wise about the 2.8, my dad had one in his '87 S10, it was gutless as the day was long. That would have been a much more economical truck if the engine had been just a liter or so bigger, but as it was, with TBI, it was just a wimpy, choked-off boat anchor that we somehow managed to squeeze about 260 thousand miles out of... I will give it credit, though, it's quieter and smoother than my 22R, but that's not hard to beat.
