Looks like some rust issues but sounds like a really good deal.
As a 12/78 production shouldn't it have been (I think) the last month for tank in cab, 4.10s, thicker tub, etc?

Doesn't have the spit rear side window for the top. Not a 79 tip for sure
It is a 1979 tip forsure he just put on a older hardtop tip
It is a 1978. Vin plate states so, and it has the gas tank inside. I own 2 1979's and you can tell by the running boards. 1979 and up has a notch in the running boards because of the tub/front cowl.
Yep. 12/78, has a pre-79 gas tank door... But the top is not a '78... Doesn't have the split, flip out windows on the sides.
Air rail is there, but most of the emissions appear to be gone.
It may be worth the price, but I'd want to see/drive it, if at least buy a professional inspection.
Given the issues we've seen, I'd want the price down around $7-7.5k

I was looking before on my phone. I see now that I was looking at the underside of the passenger floorboard and NOT the bottom of a later style tank. Damn I can't see without my glasses. Either way it has potential but not at 9k
