SOLD SOLD SOLDPRICE LOWERED TO $8500. w/o diesel.i am selling my 1979 FJ40. It is original except for the weber carb and a stereo system. The wheels are original with 33x9.50 BFG's. These tires only have 600 miles on them. Comes with an extra set of 8x15 chrome aftermarket wheels. Also have the original carb, extra distributor, tool kit and factory door mount mirrors. 2F engine with four speed. 3:73 rear and front disc brakes. Quarter panels were replaced about four years ago by previous owner. i replaced passenger rear door but have the original that has some rust at bottom edge. It has 84,127 miles now. i have owned it for two years. Like most Toyotas it leaks a little oil in my driveway. Not enought to have to add any oil since oil change 1200 miles ago. I installed a brand new radiator a few months ago.
i was installing some led bulbs in the instrument panel and i must have pulled a wire to the radio. it was working last week but will not come on now. i will look into that tomorrow.
It has rear jump seats with belts and a rear heater that works.
Previous owner removed all smog equipment. i have not had a problem getting a saftey inspection sticker for two years.
the only three things that need attention are:
1. The exhaust has a leak. it is not at the manifold but at the donut where the exhaust pipe connects. almost goes away when engine warms up.
2. The driver side window needs a new weatherstrip. it has a little rattle when you shut the door.
3. Driver seat has a stitch that came loose. i will take it to upholster Friday. Should be an easy fix since i have a complete extra seat cover. fixed. looks good.
This is a very dependable FJ40. As stated very original. Not perfect paint. I think most is original with the quarters painted when replaced. The headliner was hanging down in the rear when I bought it. Rather than replace it i removed it and painted the inside with a semi gloss white paint. I think it was some type of special roof paint for motor homes or travel trailers. Anyway it looks good.
If you have questions or need more pics you can PM me.
Right after i bought this cruiser, i bought a 3B engine from a 1983 BJ42. i have complete engine including bellhousing, starter, alternator and edic. All that is needed to do a diesel conversion is a transmission compatible to the 3B engine. I do have an input shaft if you wanted to convert the transmission.
I will sell the FJ40 for $9500. i will sell the 3B engine for an additional $1000. So for everything it will be $10,500. You do not have to buy the 3B stuff. i will not sell the 3B seperate because if the cruiser does not sell i will still do the diesel conversion.
