I purchased a 1979 FJ40 from California with the intentions of a frame-off build (not a restore because of intended mods). That's when life got in the way.

My vision was an FJ40 with the modern conviences, such as the 5.3 V8, rear disc brakes and power steering.

I have purchased almost all of the parts needed, it just needs to be put together. I will not be able to make the committment to do so in the forseeable future.

The body is in very good condition with minimal rust. The guy I got to do the minimal body work and paint screwed me over though, and I ended up having to go and get the body from him after 1 year at his shop.

The tub was the only thing painted, and it wasn't done very well. The inside of the tub was supposed to be sprayed with a Line-X type product, but whatever he used is not any good. The rest of the body wasnt painted, although the windshield frame is primed.
He also dropped the tub and bent one of the quarter panels, which I have included in the pictures on the website below.

The frame is completely coated in Chassis-Saver, as this was the only thing I completed before I had to stop.

There is also a list of almost all the parts I have bought on the website. All are brand new unless other wise noted.

The vehicle is located in Gainesville, VA until Saturday, June 13. I will be in the area that day if anyone would like to come see it. After then it will be located in Luray, VA.

I have over $22,000 in it but will take $20,000/OBO. Go to fj40parts.com for more info and pics. Please use the contact form on the website.

Do not PM because I can only receive 5 at a time.

Thanks for your time.

Chad

Please don't take this as busting balls but you'd be much better off parting that out.

"There is no hard top, hard doors, ambulance doors, 2F engine or original transmission."

I would guess you'd be very lucky to get 1/4 your asking price as it sits. That's a ton of work to be done on a $20K truck with no doors or roof. If you parted it out I bet you'd make far more than 1/4 of your price. Even fully assembled, painted, and finished you might barely get near $20K these days

Times are tough and nobody has any money or time. I really hope you don't take this post as being mean or rude.

Thanks for the input. I actually was thinking along the same lines as you but wanted to give it a shot. I'm not going to give it away, and can always store it until things pick up.

There may be no hard doors or roof, but I do have the bestop super top and doors to replace them.

I may start parting it out after a bit though.

Thanks again.

The Bay to Blue Ridge Cruisers are having a swap meet at Iron Pig Off-Road on June 20th, you might want to show up with pics and or parts, should be a large turn out you might be able to sell some of it there. It will be in Fredericksburg, Va, not too far away.

Good Luck,
Rob
