1979 axle swap.. Help!

both will require a lot of work on the front end. you need to out board the springs. don't know anyone who's done leaves on an 80 axle, not to say it hasn't been done, just can't think of one. 60s have been done many times. in the rear, 60 will be an easy swap, just weld new perches on and go.

80 front ends also have a smaller pinion. don't know how easy it would be to find a flange that will work with your driveshafts. i'll have to check someday to see if the slipshafts are the same size (40/50/60 all are the same spline/dia slipshaft, so you can mix/match driveshaft parts)

Which work best?

Beats me...I just went with wheels with custom backspacing. The extra 1.5" each side gives me the same track as a 60 and was much easier to do.

Good call pighead! Thanks.
The wheel spacing is a great idea.
Prob almost give me a longing wheelbase.
60=107.5 55=106.3 + 1.5 on either wheel. Sweet.

Looks like this when you're done...
