Up for sale is a 1978 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER HJ45 LWB DIESEL PICK-UP. It is almost completely stock except for the 8,000lb Thomas PTO Winch and the bedliner. It has the factory transmission and 6 cyl. (35H) diesel engine which averages 30 miles to the gallon. This truck also has a factory full floating heavy duty rear axle. This particular model has the removable top. The truck is an Australian model (RHD) which has been in the United States since 2004. I purchased the truck from a gentleman in South Carolina who had moved to Australia and married an Australian woman. They lived in the New South Wales area of Australia for several years, during which time he purchased this truck, before returning to the South Carolina. He imported the truck back to South Carolina at which time I purchased it from him. I have registered truck in Alabama and have a free and clear title. Please note that I am not an importer. I have owned this vehicle for the last 2 years and have lovingly restored & refurbished this Landcruiser
Exterior: The truck has just been completely repainted using the original color (Code 416 ≈ Dune Beige). The roof, the headlight bezel and the “TOYOTA” lettering on the tailgate were repainted as well using the original color (Code T-12 ≈ Cygnus White). There was a slight bit of rust in the truck bed area, behind and in front of the rear wheel wells. The entire bed was removed from the truck and sandblasted. All remaining rust was cut out and new sheet metal panels were installed. The bed was then painted and rhinolined. New emblems were ordered for the entire truck along with new turn signal housings and lenses (front and rear). Also new chrome door handles and a new factory bumper were installed on the exterior of the truck. New side mirrors were installed on the truck as well. The body of the truck has no rust or dings and all of its lines are exceptionally straight. This truck has been well taken care of.
Interior: The majority of the interior was repainted using the original color, except for the floor area, which was left alone,. The seats were removed and professionally re-upholstered. A new floor mat was installed along with a new headliner. New shifter knobs and boots were installed on the transfer and gear selector. New door panels and door handle pulls and bezels and window cranks were purchased and installed. New weatherstripping was installed on both doors and both kick vents. The cab seals off very nicely. The old radio was removed, but a new one has not yet been installed.
Mechanically: The truck is in excellent shape mechanically. Just before I purchased the truck in 2004 the previous owner spent over $5,000 having the engine rebuilt and fixing miscellaneous items. I have the itemized receipts which show everything from new rear shock absorbers and sway bars to mufflers and tailpipes to gaskets and rings. I have included a picture of the receipts and can send a pdf copy of them to you if you wish. The only item that I know of that is not working currently is the speedometer. I have put less than 1,000 miles on the truck since I purchased it in 2004 and have not gotten around to fixing it. There is a slight leak from the rear main seal. I have purchased a new seal and was going to get it replaced but the mechanic said that it was leaking enough to warrant the work. The truck runs as well as it looks.
This vehicle is located in Birmingham, Alabama (35222) and comes with an Alabama registration, so transferring it to the State of your choice will not be a problem. If you are serious about this truck, please email me and I will try to answer all of your questions. CA residents, I am told that this vehicle is exempt from smog and can be registered in CA, please check with your local regulations. This vehicle is sold as is. I have tried to do my best in describing the condition of the vehicle, but please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
