I have a very original and very complete 1977 FJ40 that I unfortunately need to part with.
It has 83,313 original miles. It is wearing it's original Olive paint. It has everything with it, jump seats, front seats, rear heater, head rests, even the original wheels and hubcaps. The top, doors, hood, etc are all original to the vehicle. I am the 3rd owner and have the original sales reciept, manual, etc from the sale to the original owner. The only rust on it is some minor bubbling below the rear ambulance doors. Everything else is rock solid and rust free.
The vehicle was purchased new in Montana and driven until roughly 1993, when the owner's son some how managed to strip one of the transfer case gears (or so I am told). The owner started tearing it down to repair it and got a little carried away. It was dismantled but every part, nut and bolt was kept, labled and stored.
It has been stored like this since 1993.
The paint is original but oxidized. It would buff out easily or is a great base for a repaint.
It comes with it's original 2F motor. The motor was checked out before I purchased it by a local offroad shop. They said it was "Within spec but getting tired". I heard "The engine's fine but you should pay us to rebuild it anyway". The transmission should be in good shape. The transfercase will need rebuilt or replaced. It is in pieces but complete.
The interior appears to be complete. Everything is original. The jump seats are in amazing shape. The headrests are awesome. The front seats are splitting at the seams a bit but very usable and/or restorable. The headliner has come down but is included and in ok shape (I'd replace it).
What's not perfect: The drivers rear wheel well has a corner folded under (log caught between wheel and fender maybe). The front doors are dented in (hip checked closed I imagine). One fender looks like they started prepping for body work but got distracted.
If you are looking to restore an FJ40, it doesn't get much better than this. It's arguably the most desirable year, original paint, low miles, documented and complete.
I'm asking $3900 obo.
To get it home, you'll need a car trailer and a pickup bed for all the boxes of parts.
Below are some pictures... I blew it off a bit but it's still dirty, 15 years of storage will do that. Much of it is still packed away in a shed so not everything is shown but it is all there.
