UPDATE: I am no longer in the market for an FJ40. I underestimated the market for these vehicles and have changed my search to a FJ60/62 as good ones are much less rare and more reasonably priced. Thanks for your help everyone.
I am ready to take the plunge and purchase my first Land Cruiser. I am selling my boring, mass produced yuppie family sedan and am finally going to buy a real automobile. I have settled in on the FJ40, but am open to the BJ40/42. I am looking for a mechanically sound rig in the 1976-83 range. My budget is $15,000 for a '79-83, less for the '76-'78.
Wish list (not necessarily deal breakers):
Original motor
Original paint (not repainted)
Little to no rust
Hard top and doors
Dependable daily driver
Original interior
I am looking at buying this now and restoring it little by little over the next decade or two.
Thanks all.
