This is the FJ 40 you have been waiting for. It has been a labor of love, but now it is time for someone else to go onward.
This Cruiser is 100% stock with the exception of an Old Man Emu 2.5 inch lift, with OME shocks and steering stabilizer. I have also had a rear tailgate fabricated to replace the rear barn doors below the rear hatch that were too far gone with rust to save. The rest of the body is sound. I have replaced both wheel wheels, the rear sill, the drivers side floor board and new rear quarter panels. The inside tub and both floor boards have been coated with Herculiner. All other rust is surface rust that can be addressed when and if the new owners elects to paint.
I have a spread sheet listing all work done including:
water pump, distributor, alternator, HD shackels, 31x 10.5R 15C BFG All Terrain tires, plug wires, stock seats reupholstered, new clutch and carb rebuild, new gas tank, sun visors, muffler, tranny mounts, fuel pump, brake master cylinder, 2 new ss braided oil supply lines to block....
I have service records on this vehicle going back to 1983 from the previous 3 owners all the way up to the present.
This has been my daily driver for the last 2 years (started everyday fine through cold, cold Colorado winters), and I just drove it from Colorado to San Diego at the end of May. The original F1 straight 6 engine with the 3 speed manual transmission burns some oil, but not excessively. For the 925 mile trip from western CO to San Diego, I added 2.5 qts of oil and got an average of 17 mpg! I drove it through 100 deg desert heat with no overheating problems. With the 31 tires, it cruises happily at 55-60 mph.
I have a nice bimini top for cruising with the top off. Also included are the stock wheels and original hubcaps.
The only issues that need might need attention are:
1. Speedometer gear broken. I have replaced the cable, but the speedo itself has a stripped gear. The odometer works, but he speedo needle just spins and does not read accurate speed.
2. Left turn signal has short. I have replaced the signal mechanism, but it flashes intermittently. The right signal works fine.
3. Hi-Low switch needs to be replaced to be able to switch from hi to low beam on headlamps.
This is the perfect 99% stock Cruiser for someone who want to do a full restoration, but it gets lots of attention at the gas pump and at stop lights just as it is.
This is a very well maintained vehicle and I have the service records to prove it, so please no ridiculously low ball offers. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Asking $8700.
I will post photos as soon as I can figure out how??? In the meantime you can see photos at my craigslist ad: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/cto/4524914684.html
