Should these latches be tight? Mine are kinda loose. What's the best way to snug them up?

I have a 1971 with the box under the seat but it doesn't have a lid. I think the po switched seats or mounts around. Would you take a pic of your setup so I can see what I am missing and need to bring back to stock?

TIA

Tom

I stuck a wedge of indoor-outdoor carpet between my seat frame and the toolbox lid. That was about 15 years ago. Still works fine.

Mine is stock with original gasket that is in good shape, Oddly enough it latches fine but the hasp doesn't fit so well for some undetermined reason. I still have the original padlock that came with it! How did I not lose that yet?

Thank you for the pics. I agree with some sort of gasket material under the lid to tighten it up. Makes sense that it would have something there to keep any water out. Something durable like a rubber that wouldn't get damaged by the weight. Does the seat hinge on the back of the box? Would love to find a lid and bring mine back to stock. Thank you again for taking the time to post these for me.

Ill take some pics of the back tomorrow.

original gasket was about 1/4'' thick and hard rubber (assuming what was on mine was OEM).

You went through quite a bit of trouble for the photos and I sincerely thank you. The po kept the stock seat and adjustment mech but made a bracket that attaches to the tool box sides. I see now what I am going to need to bring it back to stock.

Did you see the above post by 65swb45? He has gaskets for the lid that should fix your problem. Click on his link at the bottom of his page marksoffroad.net

I have bought through him before and he is a standup guy and is highly recommended here

I am making up a list of things I need to order from him and will add a toolbox lid and gasket to it.

Thanks again for your help.
Tom
