Should these latches be tight? Mine are kinda loose. What's the best way to snug them up?

I have a 1971 with the box under the seat but it doesn't have a lid. I think the po switched seats or mounts around. Would you take a pic of your setup so I can see what I am missing and need to bring back to stock?

Ill take some pics of the back tomorrow.Thank you for the pics. I agree with some sort of gasket material under the lid to tighten it up. Makes sense that it would have something there to keep any water out. Something durable like a rubber that wouldn't get damaged by the weight. Does the seat hinge on the back of the box? Would love to find a lid and bring mine back to stock. Thank you again for taking the time to post these for me.
