1970 FJ 40 great frame- Japanese Cruiser, great resto project
This particular Toyota FJ 40 is truly a rare find. It is a 1970 domestic Japanese model, meaning, it is a Right Hand Drive vehicle which spent the first 18 years of its life touring Japan under the ownership of a photographer. When it was imported into the U.S.A. in 1988 it was delivered to Orlando, Florida and has been here ever since. This FJ is almost entirely outfitted with original parts ( Engine, Trans, Body, Lights, Badges, Gagues, Seats...) with the only modifications being a mount in the dash for a stereo and CB. NO jacked up mods on this collectable truck. In restored condition this can be a sweet ride.
The Original Factory Power Take Off winch is in good working order. It also has a very special factory option of A/C (nippondenso), a very RARE option at the time. All original gagues with only 64,857 Kilometers (speedo is KPH not MPH), 3 speed manual (on the colum) transmission, ALL ORIGINAL Badges, Original Carb, seats, two folding jump seats in rear, hard top with roof rack, all manuals (in English
).
This is seriously a dream restoration project! Here's the point, this is a special FJ in need of restoration since it has been sitting for 5 years. There is some tub and body rust in the normal places but the frame is in excellent shape. The master brake and clutch cylinders and wheel cylinders need replacement as they are seized. The straight 6 cyl F SERIES engine runs, the carb is clean but i suggest a rebuild. PTO winch works so well it's scary. Tranny, diffs and transfer case are in solid shape. Throughout it's late life most parts and rebuild consultation was from SPECTER OFF-ROAD. They know this vehicle well... if you can find one of the oldtimers or Marv himself.
