1969 FJ40 Land Cruiser (Retro Rod) $26,000 OBO
PURISTS AVERT YOUR EYES...you have been warned....
UPDATE AS OF OCTOBER 2016:
-Ad updated with new: motor, trans, transfer case, steering, seats
I bought it with a crappy 305 in it and rebuilt it over 2 years. It’s always stored in my garage and now with the newer V8 and the auto and power steering it is a joy to drive. I need a new project though and want to make a FJ45.
I have no idea how many miles were on this when I got it. Since adding the GPS speedometer there are roughly 1500mi on it now. It's not my daily driver and the mileage might go up some as I take it out once a month or so.
In August I installed a NEW 0mi, 2001 (Goodwrench) Chevrolet 5.3L Vortec engine, but no EGR. SMOG is not required to register this truck in California, and it does have a 1970s CARB engine swap plate for a Chevy 350 carb motor. So if stopped and an officer requests to see the engine because it “sounds like a V8” you could say “it is a V8 and here is the CARB certification”. That said here are some of the highlights for this truck.
DRIVETRAIN
2001 era, but new 0mi 5.3L Vortec motor, new heads, block, oil pump, water pump, plugs, wires, headers, oil pan, Mass Air Flow Sensor and injectors.

Hooker headers and 3" single pipe exhaust.
Aluminum 3-core radiator
Rebuilt 4L60E transmission, new: pump, accumulator, bands, filter and shift kit
AA Adapter to 3-speed case
Rebuilt 3-speed case, new: seals, bearings, needle bearings
New Lokar transmission shifter and Orange 45 twin stick kit
Rebuilt driveshafts (front not installed at the moment because I was finishing the exhaust)
1969 axles with Wilwood disc front brakes and GM rear disc brakes, both have new bearings and seals, outer bearing and seals replaced on rear, front knuckles rebuilt recently
Stock 4.11 gears
Aussie locker in rear
Less than 500mi on BFG 33x10.5 tires (Spare unused)
BODY and INTERIOR

Entirely new electrical system and fuse panel with hidden kill switch
New Autometer gauges and GPS speedometer
Check engine, high low beam, turn signal indicators all work correctly
No radio (I use a bluetooth speaker and my phone)
All LED lights except headlights (round eyes) and interior dome light, changing to LED headlights this week
Custom seat mounts and Smart ForTwo seats
-Funky fabric but they sit low on the sliders, covers are available...comfortable!
Smittybuilt center console
BestTop Trailmax flip and fold rear seat
New 3-point front belts and new lap rear belts
MetalTech front cage section with stockish rear section. I have a back family section that could be included, haven't decided if I will use that on the new project.
Hot rod heater and 2-speed blower, needs tube to defrost vents which were pretty rusted out when I bought it.
Vintage air electric heater switch
Hard doors with new window felts and wing rubber, one wing rubber needs replaced and I have a Toyota part, has an aftermarket rubber in now that does not fit well
Factory Soft top bows!!
Teq Top reproduction soft top ~ 1yr old, excellent shape (Truck is garaged)
Removed all the rust I could find and welded in new rear sill and quarter panels patches. The rear patches have thin bondo to smooth out.
Entire tub is covered in Monsta Liner and then painted, easily touched up with Rustoleum spray
4Plus front bumper, not the winch bumper in some pictures!
Custom (local guy) dual swing out rear bumper with spare carrier and cooler tray
4Plus step rockers
TONS of BLACK powder coating: front bumper, hood spear, hood hinges, windshield hinges, door hinges, tailgate hinges, door handles
MECHANICAL
Replaced all brake lines with new lines and 10mm fittings
New mini-truck brake booster
New T100 master cylinder
Power steering box adapted from mini-truck to 70's stock column (VERY NICE), and Toyota wheel
Front OME 2” lift springs
U-bolt flip kits front and rear.
Rear OME FJ60 2” lift springs, wheelbase is lengthened and axle pushed back 6 inches with new shackle mounts from RuffStuff
4 Bilstein 5100 shocks
All new steering joints except bell-crank, steering has no slop
1970's tank with a separator and Autometer gauge sender
Electric fuel pump along with V8 conversion (comes with spare pump). Has 2 inline filters and uses a return line from the factory chevy fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail.
Check engine light and OBDII connector work as they should, PCM mounted inside cab
ISSUES
Top not completely waterproofed (needs waxed) and has some coverage issues at door corners
Still a 46 year old truck…not a perfect restoration, more useable! The tub was NOT and is NOT perfect. There are some dents in the bed area and the defog ducts in the cowl are almost gone. All the major rust was removed and coated before being primed and Monsta-Lined. There are still rust spots I couldn't get since this was NOT a frame off restoration.
If you are still reading at this point, please send me a PM and I will send you my email and phone number. I'll take pictures of specific areas and try and answer any questions. Not interested in any trades...I have 2 40's and an 80 at the moment, so I'm Cruiser'd Out.
