The story is that the lady that owned the ranch back in the 80s drove this truck everywhere she went. The ranch is in a remote area and the nearest town is over 40 miles away. I first heard about this truck from the prior owner of another FJ45 lpb that was used on the same ranch. This other truck was included in the deal but did not have a title. It's in a bit worse shape and is spoken for by a local cruiserhead.

Very nice! I agree with the others: please don't go too wild with her. It will be hard enough to see a beauty like that with swampers on her, but it is your rig and I say do what you want.

I am personally in favour of putting newer Cruiser stuff in, though. Disk brakes from a 76-84 FJ40, 2F, 5 speed- all make for a more enjoyable rig, and still keep it Toyota. Power steering from an FJ60 make a world of improvement, but is still Toyota.

PM me if there is anything I can help you with from down here in the land of Big Brother. If I hear of any tail gates, I will post them here, but I doubt I ever will. Most 45s here had tray backs installed, and the beds have been long-since crushed.

Enjoy the find!!

Cheers,

Josh

The tailgate is the missing piece of the puzzle right now. It has a manky channel iron ranch built tailgate on it now that is welded to the original hinges. Then, it has a rear bumper that was welded to the rear and side of the bed for extra support. I think it is all salvageble once I hack the extra metal off. Fortunately, no rust to speak of.

I have a good running extra 2f now to go with the 4 speed trans/transfer. That will be my starting point.

After I finish the 40, my wifes VW Bug, and replace the furnace I ripped out of the house last week.

Just a little update...

I worked on the pickup a little last weekend. A friend of mine wanted the f motor out of it and I was planning on putting a 2f in it anyway. The last time this truck was registered was in 1989. I disconnected the wiring harness from the starter because the mice have chewed up the dash wiring. I also disconnected the fuel line from the pump because the gas was a little stale. I hooked up a battery to it and filled the carburetor with gas through the vent tube. The thing turned over twice, fired, and ran like a sewing machine. It was just incredible how smoothe it ran. Hardly any lifter noise or anything. A ran a couple carburetors full of gas through it and ran it up to around 1500 rpm. Smoothe all the way.

Now I'm thinking I should be selling the 2f.

I rewarded the truck by putting a good set of fenders and a bib on it. Next weekend is a new bumper and some pics!!!

How did this end up..?

It's sitting in my shop waiting for work behind a few other projects. (Pictures don't include my 55 and my 72 Suburban that a parked outside under covered parking)

It's actually my dads and he is trying to decide the best route to go, restore, or build.
